Job Summary

The Nicklisch lab is looking for a motivated Lab Assistant to work part-time for 15 hours a week on our honey bee project. We have cloned full length honeybee drug transporters from wildtype honeybees collected from the UC Davis honeybee haven. The LA will clone those genes into commercial expression vectors and optimize the expression of the proteins in different microbial host systems (yeast, E. coli) using controlled biofermentation. Expressed proteins will be purified using affinity tag and size exclusion chromatography.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

• Experience with wet lab work.
• Experience analyzing and plotting data.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

• Ability to interpret analytical data and prepare reports.
• Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices, federal Regulations 40, Part 160, and safety as required by OSHA regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

• Background in biotechnology, microbiology, protein biochemistry, or molecular biology is preferred.
• Experience with protein expression and/or purification is highly preferred.
• Experience with cloning, constructing expression vectors, and/or microbial cultivation is highly preferred.
