JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Conferences and Institutes is hiring instructors/co-instructors for the Summer Music Institute (SMI) youth camp to be held Tuesday, July 11 – Saturday, July 15, 2023.
The Summer Music Institute is a five-day, in-person program held on Penn State's University Park campus for high school students to immerse themselves in making music at Penn State. Students will engage in comprehensive study of their instrument and get a sample of an intensive collegiate music making experience. Practical classes, rehearsals, and performances will be included.
Duties include assisting with content development and instruction; preparation of learning materials and activities; presentation of specific subjects; assisting with program activities. Youth Program Instructors are responsible for ensuring the supervision and safety of minors participating in the program, and will manage all aspects of the daily camp administration, including youth compliance policies and procedures, emergency response, direct communication with Youth Program Leaders and Program Manager. Must be able to identify and respond to issues concerning camper interactions, behavior, mental health and acclimation to the camp environment. Youth Program Instructors may face situations when they must act quickly and calmly using sound judgement, handle sensitive issues or information, address camper behavior issues, and immediately follow any necessary notification protocols. Prior experience and the ability to engage learners is preferred.
