Job Summary

The Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (MCDB) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a contract Instructor, to teach the Drug Discover Lab course (MCDB 1171 & 2171) beginning in the Fall 2023 semester.

The Drug Discovery Lab is a CURE (Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience) lab. As such, the labs enable undergraduate students to participate in original research and to present their results at a CURE symposium every semester. The lab collaborates with MCDB faculty members to identify novel antibiotics and chemotherapeutics using Salmonella Typhimurium and Drosophila melanogaster, respectively. The position requires oversight of graduate and undergraduate teaching assistant who help teach 6-7 laboratory sections per semester.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • This position includes a one hour lecture each week, supervising 10-12 graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants and overseeing 6-7 sections of the Drug Discovery Lab each semester.
    • Each lab section meets for 2 hours twice a week.
  • Responsibilities also include preparing all materials for experiments, maintaining instruments, ordering supplies, and mentoring students in the research process.

  • This is a three-year renewable contract opportunity.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this full-time position is $62,000-64,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or a related discipline.

What You Will Need

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate courses or as an Instructor for lecture-style and/or in lab courses.
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate education.
  • Knowledge of current pedagogical approaches to higher education teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and advocate for an environment of diversity and inclusive excellence and demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
