Santa Barbara City College is seeking full-time, tenure track faculty member positions in the to start in Fall 2023. In 2009, SBCC was designated as an Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting our responsibility to support and serve the needs of our Latina/o/x students. Moreover, given our overall student population, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to join a department that is dedicated to the use of curriculum and pedagogy that shares SBCC’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse post-traditional student population.
A full time tenure track faculty position in Ceramics is available effective August 2023 at Santa Barbara City College, Santa Barbara, California. The position is open to skilled candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate education, advancing the Ceramics program’s curricular offerings and to acting as area head of a full Ceramic studio. The position will entail management of the Ceramics program, curriculum, studio equipment and lab. A successful candidate will be immersed in contemporary Ceramic art as a core part of their studio practice. Responsibilities may include -

Teaching all methods of Ceramics (ceramics/handbuilding, slip casting,clay mixing, glaze calculation, atmospheric firing)

Overseeing all elements of a comprehensive ceramic facility including ordering supplies,maintaining equipment, firing kilns, overseeing work-study students, tutors and lab technicians and coordinating with part-time instructors

Maintenance of sufficient office hours to meet student needs

Updating and maintaining program curriculum
Other responsibilities and opportunities include serving as Art Department chair, the development, integration and maintenance of the Ceramics in an AA Art degree path, and shared governance of the college with committee assignments. The college is located on the coast in close proximity to the vibrant art scene in Los Angeles.

Evidence of a significant practice, artistic development, exhibitions and/or publication including Ceramic related work
Ability to lead and work collegially with colleagues in coordinating programming.

Master's Degree in Fine Art, preferably Ceramics, from an accredited institution
Master’s in fine arts, art, or art history OR
- Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in humanities OR
- Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to all of the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required material.
