The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is the oldest school for the deaf, founded in 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. The American School for the Deaf is committed to serving deaf and hard of hearing infants, youth and their families in development of intellect and the enhancement of quality of life utilizing specially designed instruction through an American Sign Language and English Bilingual Approach, empowering them to become educated and self-directed life-long learners.

SCOPE OF DUTIES
Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Development Associate will assist with tasks designed to effectively and efficiently support the Institutional Advancement Department with their efforts in developing the Annual Fund, researching funding sources, develop funding campaigns and assist with locating possible grants and developing proposals.
Will assist with various tasks involved in publications.

PRIMARY DUTIES
Fundraising
  • Assist with Annual Fund development and solicitation
  • Work with organizational departments to develop funding proposals
  • Research, identify, and pursue potential funding opportunities
  • Assist in the development of grant proposals to state and federal agencies, private and corporate foundations, and civic organizations, when appropriate
  • Collaborate with the IA team to execute special fundraising campaigns, including capital campaigns for campus projects
  • Assist in the development of fundraising, cultivation and stewardship activities
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of ASD’s annual golf tournament
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive annual development plans
Communications
  • Provide copywriting and print support for departments and programs
  • Assist in the writing, editing, and production of school publications, including American Era Magazine, informational brochures, newsletters, and press releases
  • Assist with the overall production of annual reports and fundraising materials
Community Engagement
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of annual and special events
Marketing/Public Relations
  • Assist with efforts to market the school and its programs
  • Collaborate to enhance ASD’ social media presence
  • Assist in photographing school activities and special events
Administration
  • Assist in the timely submission of required final grant reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • At least 1-3 years’ of experience within an office setting (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience with writing, editing, and publishing materials
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort level with Google Suite
  • Working knowledge of sign language required or must be willing to learn.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Non-exempt 12-month position
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
