Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatric Unit Manager / LCSW Job at Hillsboro Medical Center

The Manager for the geriatric psychiatry unit assumes 24/7 responsibility and accountability for all patient care activities, unit operation, and staff function as well as directs and supervises all technical and management aspects.. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with the organizational philosophy and objectives. Fosters highly skilled professional practice and develops high functioning interdisciplinary teams.
Serves as a catalyst for change within the organization and department to advance patient care and staff engagement. Responsible for providing and overseeing licensed social workers as a provision of the clinical and resource aspects of the social services function in the organization. Manages all psychiatric OT and nursing staff, approves all group programming and processes, and builds an engaged therapy team. Ensures that resources are utilized effectively. Provides on-going personnel management and may provide social work licensure supervision when needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performed majority of the time:
Collaborates with organization leaders in review and approval of policies and procedures, standards of patient care, plans for provision of treatment and service.
- Assures ongoing quality improvement programs are incorporated in clinical/nursing care, treatment and services delivered to patients. Facilitates process improvement activities to meet expected quality metrics.
- Holds staff accountable for adhering to policies, processes and standards in a consistent manner.
- Helps staff through change by consistently being a positive role model.
- Completes HR and Payroll deadlines such as completing PDS’s and ePA’s within expected timeframes.
- Shares information regarding business direction and goals in a timely and positive manner along with corporate and departmental financial status with employees.
- Ensures employee licenses and certifications are current.
- Supervises and coordinates the efforts of department leaders.
- Coordinates and implements project/programs and performs other management duties as assigned by the administrative team. Participates with the administrative team in strategic planning.
- Participates and/or leads assigned committees
- Ensures staffing for areas of responsibility is adequate to address continuity of care, patient acuity and appropriateness of care considering age, culture, ethnicity and personal belief systems.
- Promotes the retention, recruitment, development and continuing education of staff.
- Oversees and directs department activities including standards, scope of practice, policies/procedures for areas of responsibility (should be consistent with O-85).
- Assures that department policies are aligned with OSBN’s scope of practice and revises and educates on policy changes.
- Understands recourses in regards to compliance, HIPPA, privacy and HR concerns and escalates issues when needed.
Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:
Provides orientation to the new staff and completes annual performance development summaries on each core and per diem team members.
- Participates in corporate programs and attends appropriate meeting to enhance communication and to assist in achieving corporate goals.
- Communicates safety expectations and necessity for staff to attend annual training.
- Assures that quality improvement monitoring and evaluation is implemented and maintained.
- Completes all mandatory education for state licensure and DNV requirements
- Provides licensure supervision as requested.

Education:
Required
Master’s degree in social work.

Experience:
Required
Minimum five (5) years’ experience providing treatment services as a social worker; two (2) years of which should include individual and group therapy to the adult population.
- Experience with hiring, staff development, and team building.
- Experience with quality improvement; developing initiatives, monitoring, and demonstrated improvements in improving clinical care quality.
- Prior clinical experience working with psychiatric/behavioral health patients.
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies to provide care for persons with psychiatric and/or substance use disorders.
Preferred
- At least two (2) years managing personnel.
- Prior clinical experience working in psychiatric/behavioral health units or medical facilities that focus on mental health patients.
- Experience with service design, programming for group therapy, developing curriculum for staff, complementary therapies and diagnostic evaluations.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
Required
Valid licensure by the state of Oregon for Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). .
Preferred
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.
- CADC or CADC II credential and experience.

- Works in cooperation with and under the consultation of the appropriate medical director.

- Demonstrates knowledge of hiring and compensation process/policies.
- Works to improve communication among staff and other departments.
- Gives regular feedback to staff including performance feedback and recognition. Manages poor performers in a consistent and timely manner.
Preferred
Financial skills including budget development and management of budgets – operating and capital and monitoring of budget performance.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, workers’ compensation management, DNV, Oregon State Board of Nursing, and State and Federal regulations.
- Bilingual skills a plus.
