The Residence Inn by Marriott and the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, Riverhead, NY are two managed properties by New Castle Hotels & Resorts. We are looking for a Human Resources Coordinator. A people champion, this role will be directly responsible for leading the culture and employee relations aspect of the hotel, in addition to taking on the administrative payroll processing responsibilities for both properties which are located in the same parking lot allowing your office to be jointly split between the two properties.

You are organized and methodical and like to be busy, productive and helpful at work. You have a knack for numbers and possess great attention to detail as well as an understanding of human resources and payroll rules & laws. You love to lead a great employee luncheon, having fun activities for your staff comes organically and lending an ear for employee concerns is second nature. You understand the importance of an accurate payroll and will strive work with management & supervisors to ensure time cards and paychecks are accurate as they can be.

Computer software comes second nature to you as you process employee payroll checks on a timely and accurate basis, ensuring that each employee check correctly shows all hours worked at the appropriate rate and position along with gratuities, service charges and any special adjustments for the week. In the role of the Human Resources Coordinator, you will:

  • Be Exacting – ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of each week’s payroll, working through special issues which might arise, e.g., garnishments, with precision and know how then submitting for processing to the corporate payroll office.
  • Be the Organizer - maintaining all employee files, applications, and processing all Human Resources related paperwork accurately and timely manner.
  • Be Accurate – manage file feeds, time and attendance, data issues, employee files, etc. both timely and accurately.
  • Be a Team Player – Offer support to managers and help staff members with payroll questions, solving problems as needed.
  • Be the Planner – Organize weekly employee lunches complete with games and prizes to be awarded.
  • Be the Report Writer – understand the rules and run accurate reports as needed. Be able to track things like manual checks, leave management, 401k and healthcare enrollments, etc.
  • Be the HR Dept. Greeter – you welcome all calls and inquiries that come into your department with a friendly and helpful manner, handling those items that you can yourself and directing staff and/or others to the right person.
  • Be the Report Generator – your role including inputting data and maintaining spreadsheets to generate reports (and, in some cases payroll), as needed and your key eye for detail and passion for order allows you to maintain meticulous records.
  • Be an Employee Resource – be a go to person when employees have questions about such things as benefits, vacation, etc. You strive to keep the team happy and motivated with a dotted line to the corporate human resources office and working closely with the corporate HRD.
  • Be a Safety & Security Agent – following your hotel’s established safety and security policies & procedures. Anticipate problems and ask for management assistant as needed.

Job Requirements

This role requires at least one year of progressive experience in human resources and payroll or a related field. College coursework in a related field helpful, but must have excellent working knowledge of all payroll, human resources related requirements for federal, state/provincial and municipal government agencies. Completion or enrollment in a Human Resource designation program is preferred, with college course work in a relevant field helpful. Previous hotel experience is also preferred as is the ability to work with various hotel HR related software programs.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively in English and must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately. You must also be able to work in stressful high-pressure situations and can assimilate complex information, data, etc. from disparate sources and consider, adjust or modify your work to meet the constraints of a particular need. You must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving payroll related issues as necessary. This job requires light/sedentary work – exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently - with a regular need to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This role will require the ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels, with near vision (the ability to see details at close range) required. The Human Resources Coordinator will regularly use office equipment, e.g., a computer and various software programs.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
