Job Description

The Iowa Department of Transportation s Human Resources Bureau is looking for a new member to join its Benefits and Employment team. We re looking for someone who loves providing exceptional customer service and wants to positivity impact our employee s lives!

In this role, you will serve as a Human Resources Associate and contribute your experience and knowledge towards fulfilling our Mission - Making Lives Better Through Transportation. What you ll do:


  • As a Human Resources Associate you will be dedicated to performing a variety of Human Resource functions; including, but not limited to benefits, FMLA, catastrophic leave, absences, time-entries, retirement processing, and long-term disability.
  • You will gain a strong knowledge of our Human Resource Information Systems (Workday) and will work closely with Department of Administrative Services-Human Resource Enterprise staff and other sister State Agencies.
  • As a Human Resources Associate, you will work very closely with all managers, supervisors, and employees to properly complete personnel transactions.
  • You will work under recurring deadlines and timeframes.

Duties also require strong math and proof-reading skills.

As for scheduling, this position offers flexibility and part time remote work. It is required to report, in person, to the Ames Central Complex weekly.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Four years of full-time work experience in administrative support, at least two years of which were in a human-resources-related program area.
2) All of the following (a, b, and c):
a. One year of full-time work experience in administrative support in a human-resources-related program area; and
b. A total of one year of education and/or full-time experience in administrative support in a human-resources-related program area, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
c. A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience in general administrative support, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 12 months of full-time work as a Human Resources Technical Assistant, Human Resources Technical Specialist, Secretary (any level), or Administrative Assistant (any level).
