Hmong Jumpstart Director Job at Boys & Girls Club of Portage County

Reports to: Center Director and/or Director of Operations
Position Summary: This club site is a specific after-school program for Hmong students in 1st – 6th grade. This program aims to help Hmong students improve their literacy, provide culturally specific programs and to teach and preserve Hmong language and culture. Their primary responsibility will be Hmong enrichment and program development, program staff supervision, facility management, monitoring program and facility budget, partnership-building, marketing, and public relations, and evaluating club member/parent relationship performance. The Director will work closely with the school to recruit and retain Club members and continue to develop a successful partnership with the Hmong Uplift Program and Stevens Point Area School District.
Qualifications:
- Can read, write, and speak fluently in Hmong
- Competent in Hmong culture
- Has knowledge in coordinating Hmong enrichment programs
- Valid State Driver’s License and access to regular/reliable transportation
- Clean driving record, ability to drive shuttle with youth
- A high school diploma or a GED is required and college experience is preferred
- At least 1 year of experience in youth development/management
- Prior experience in a Boys & Girls club or similar organization is preferred
- Demonstrated staff and program management skills
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with children from diverse backgrounds, as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner
- Ability to deal with the general public
- Ability to work independently as well as in groups
- Able to meet deadlines
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Active environment that requires the employee to be on their feet for several hours at a time
- Some lifting and moving of moderately sized objects
- Some driving is necessary
Primary Duties for the Site Coordinator:
Site Leadership and Management
- Plan, manage, and implement program activities, develop monthly program schedules and calendars
- Oversee the on-site management of attendance data and procedures, program documents, membership files, food records and other administrative duties as assigned
- Pursue effective collaborative partnerships with other agencies, schools, businesses, etc. to increase the number of youth being served
- Provide direction to program staff, scheduling, approval of timecards, facilitation of staff meetings
- Establish effective relationships with designated parties and key school personnel to improve the delivery of B&GC programs and to recruit new Club members
- Monitor program monthly expenses to ensure expenses are within budget projections
- Work with the Director of Operations and other designated parties to ensure smooth and effective operation of the club site
- Create staff schedules within budget
- Establish effective and trusting relationships with members and their guardians
- Adhere to behavior management policies and exercise authority in programs
Program Development
- Coordinate Hmong language enrichment programs for youth with Hmong Uplift
- Coordinate Hmong cultural enrichment programs for youth with Hmong Uplift
- Coordinate Hmong food program with Farmshed and other local partners
- Coordinates assigned program areas and high-yield learning activities for youth that are both fun and instructional
- Effectively plan and lead programs, field trips, and a variety of activities for Club members; promotes and stimulates program participation.
- Work with Club members to ensure that there is a productive work environment
Implement Youth Development Programs
- Ensure that all programs and activities occur daily as scheduled
- Ensure an appropriate number of youth participate in each program
- Provide guidance and role modeling to program staff and Club members
- Discipline policies are enforced during each program
Evaluate Youth Development Programs
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure the safety of Club members, quality of programs, and appearance of the Club site at all times
- Participation numbers are tracked for each activity
- Assist in collecting outcome data when requested
- Assist in grant reporting when necessary
Facility Management
- Create, follow, and maintain the daily & weekly cleaning schedule
- Assist in maintaining a clean, neat, and properly equipped program area
- Assist in keeping program supplies organized and maintained to limit wasted resources
- Assist in making sure that the overall Club environment is safe and inviting for all Club Members
Professionalism
- Arrive on time according to the staff schedule and prepared to work
- Appear dressed in a professional manner
- Always carry themselves in and out of the Club as a role model while also providing guidance to Club members
- Support staff in meeting program goals, objectives, and outcomes
- Form meaningful, safe, and positive relationships with Club members, their parents and/or guardians, school personnel, staff, and volunteers by communicating effectively.
- Report any employee misconduct to the Director &/or Executive Director immediately
- Be in consistent communication with the Director of Operations, staff, school personnel, and other key individuals
Additional Responsibilities:
- Must be able to be trained to perform CPR
- Able to pass a reference and background check
- May need to sit in on meetings with parents/guardians
- Participate in special programs and/or events
- May attend field trips
- Assist in or handle special assignments or other duties as deemed necessary or important by supervisor
