The Health, Safety & Food Specialist is responsible for the overall health, cleanliness and safety best practices and food preparation for all enrolled children. This position at times will be responsible for the oversight of a group of children as well as their health and safety. In addition, this position ensures safe food preparations and proper sanitation methods are used and maintains a safe and clean kitchen/pantry area.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Health, Safety & Cleanliness
- Completes the Health and Safety Checklist weekly in partnership with the Site Director.
- Ensures the Playground Safety Checklist is complete daily before children exit the playground.
- Verifies all Cleaning Lists are completed from the day before and follows up with appropriate staff as necessary.
- Conducts and documents all safety drills (fire, tornado, lockdown) each month, and verifies documentation is accurate, accessible and up to date.
- Supports the Site Director in successful safety training for staff persons on an on-going basis by daily, weekly and monthly auditing checklists for completion and accuracy
Meals/Kitchen:
- Prepares daily meals and snacks for children Infants to 10 years old using approved, branded menus while maintaining allergy requirements.
- Create weekly menus by inserting catered lunch menu and designing snack options using USDA guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, foods, utensils, and equipment in accordance with health codes and industry standards.
- Set up food carts for the classrooms, and deliver and remove them on time.
- Order snack menu items, manage, order/stock and equipment (perishables, food/dairy), paper products, and cleaning supplies, including storage and rotation, and operate commercial appliances.
- Follow accepted safety practices when using equipment and utensils.
- Maintain record keeping including production charts, temperature charts, and inventory.
- Organize and assist with general food operations including cleanup, dishwashing, and stocking.
- Meet all requirements of the Child Care Food Program standards.
- Provide information and limited assistance to teaching staff on nutrition and cooking lessons.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Willing to support staff with meal/rest breaks as directed by Site Director

Pay: $17.00/hr based on experience and qualifications
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
-Experience cooking for schools or childcare centers is preferred, but not required.
-Valid Minnesota Food Sanitation Certificate preferred, but will be provided upon employment.
-Ability to follow oral and written instructions
-Must pass DHS background check
-Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time
-Ability to lift up to 50lbs on a daily basis
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 per hour
