Head Chef Job at The Collegian
We are looking for a talented and charismatic Head Chef to lead a top notch dining experience in an academically oriented student environment. This person is tasked with creating and executing menus that our residents are excited about on a daily basis and directing their team to live up to high standards in creating healthy, delicious meals that utilize both plant based and traditional cooking.

Job Summary:
Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, creatively manage daily food operations at privately owned student living, feeding 19 meals per week to approximately 45-50 residents. Because residents will be eating in the café day in and day out, the Head Chef must be skilled in planning and preparing a wide variety of foods to create interesting, exciting, nutritious meals. Required experience includes: “front of the house” operations, personnel supervision, preparation of nutritious menus for normal palates and those with dietary restrictions, food and supplies ordering, budgeting, and “hands-on” cooking. The Head Chef reports to the Building General Manager.
Job Skills and Requirements:
- Proven work experience
- Certification from a culinary school or degree in Restaurant Management is desirable
- Hands-on experience in planning menus with a variety of interesting foods
- Knowledge of a wide range of nutritious recipes
- Familiarity with kitchen sanitation and safety regulations
- Possess a friendly, courteous respectful disposition.
- Ability to manage a team and delegate tasks and create a positive work environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
- Speak and write clearly with staff and residents.
- Computer communication
- Ability to learn and grow.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, supervise, schedule, and train kitchen staff
- Prepare menus based on seasonal availability and emphasizing nutrition
- Prepare dishes for residents with specialized diets - vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and food allergies.
- Order and receive food and supplies
- Maintain a fully-stocked kitchen inventory
- Prepare and adhere to a food budget
- Supervise and share in food prep and cooking
- Comply with safety and cleanliness standards
- Schedule and oversee maintenance and repairs on kitchen appliances
- Interact with residents and respond personally to resident suggestions, questions and complaints.
Compensation:
- $60k to $75k DOE
- 6-7 weeks of paid vacation per year (Academic Breaks)
