Job Description:

Operate a service truck throughout the designated construction area(s) to service and maintenance on heavy diesel equipment and trucks. May perform other duties at the maintenance shop.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Pre-trip and maintain service on asphalt service truck; keep log and mileage card up to date; keep truck clean
  • Fuel equipment and keep gallon and hour meter records correct and turned in daily
  • Check all oil, water, and fluids on equipment daily.
  • Grease equipment on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Grease asphalt pavers at the end of every shift. This helps clean out bearings on augers of asphalt pavers.
  • Keep rollers full of water and keep nozzles and strainers on the water systems clean.
  • Check and make sure that equipment has fire extinguishers located in the proper place daily. Sign off on monthly inspection cards. Replace as needed. There is never a need for equipment to have fire extinguishers that are not up to date or missing. If equipment is missing a fire extinguisher, contact the job foreman/shop supervisor.
  • Check back up alarms on all equipment daily.
  • Collect pre-trips from operators at the beginning of every shift and notify foreman or shop manager of any issues or complaints.
  • Broom tractors - change air filters weekly if needed; grease u-joints; broom bearings; check belts, hoses, and help change broom cores.
  • Pickup trucks and tack trucks - Check oil and water weekly and grease monthly at a minimum; check air, tires, lights and change air filters and wipers as needed. Assist driver with oil changes and yearly inspections.
  • Ensure equipment is serviced and ready for crews.
  • Assist paving crews as needed.

Minimum Qualifications & Training:

  • 2 years of experience OR combination of education and experience
  • Must have a minimum of a CDL Class B with Tanker and Hazmat Endorsements (will assist right person with obtaining endorsements)
  • Valid Medical card
  • Must be at least 19 years old
  • Working knowledge in hand tools required.
  • Must have a positive attitude and willingness to grow in position
  • Ability to abide by precise instructions and strict but necessary safety rules and regulations.
  • Must be a reliable and trustworthy individual that will be a team player.
  • Maintain a good attendance and safety record.

Tasks Essential to Job Functions:

  • Standing and walking required.
  • Ability to work long periods of time in elevated temperatures due to weather and materials.
  • Ability to operate equipment at recommended speeds and peaks of operation.
  • Must be productive during each shift and be willing to meet the goals that are set.
  • Visual activity – ability to work safely in traffic and to know surroundings while tacking.
  • Ability to work weekends and some nights.
