GIS Technician (Address) Job at Comal County

Comal County New Braunfels, TX 78132

Summary

Coordinates the development and maintenance of the master street address and street name database for Comal County with the Bexar Metro 911 Network District, the Comal Appraisal District, local municipalities, telephone and utility companies, U.S. Post Office, and Emergency Agencies. Acts on behalf of City of New Braunfels in same regard in accordance with approved inter-local agreement. Provides technical assistance in the development of GIS related applications and programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:

  • Enforces the Comal County Road Naming and Address Assigning Order.
  • Maintains an up to date and accurate database with correct physical addresses of all livable structures in Comal County and the New Braunfels City limits.
  • Serves as primary focal point of contact for citizens trying to determine an address in Comal County and areas within the city limits of New Braunfels outside of Comal County.
  • Serves as a liaison in Commissioners Court and the New Braunfels City Council with regards to addressing and street name assignment/change in Comal County.
  • Serves as a liaison between Comal County/City of New Braunfels and Bexar Metro 911 and Comal Appraisal District with regards to addressing issues.
  • May perform fieldwork to gather data related to addressing, street location and street signage.
  • Provides technical assistance for GIS applications and programs.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Mandatory Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School graduate or GED equivalent required. Bachelor of Science or Associates Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) related degree preferred; three (3) years of database related experience preferred; working knowledge of computers (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, etc.). Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid Texas driver’s license in order to operate county vehicles.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before members of the public or employees of organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to learn physical and geographical orientation. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to work outdoors making house-to-house verification.
