Department Overview
Gas System Planning, Products & Sales is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. This position is located within Gas System Planning which is responsible for providing hydraulic analysis, operational support, and system engineering of PG&E's backbone, local transmission, and distribution systems.
Gas System Planning:
Responsible for supervising and managing engineers within PG&E’s Gas System Planning department. Leads and manages the hydraulic analysis and support for the company’s backbone, transmission, and distribution systems. Leads and manages collaboration with gas operations departments and other lines of business (LOB) to ensure the design, construction, and operation of facilities meet operational requirements of the gas pipeline systems. Contributes toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.
Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory, please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.
Position will require approximately 5%-10% of travel time in work schedule.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $147,000
Bay Area Maximum: $251,000
&/OR
California Minimum: $140,000
California Maximum: $238,000
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Qualifications-
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge and understanding of PG&E’s gas system hydraulics
Knowledge and understanding of gas system engineering and operations, forecasting and analysis, gas transportation and storage, gas rates and tariffs, and regulatory issues related to gas transmission and storage operations
Knowledge, understanding, and application of gas engineering practices and methodologies
Knowledge and understanding of Engineering and Scientists of California (ESC) contracts
Ability to create and resolve compelling business cases and provide justifications for presentation to PG&E senior leadership and management
Accounting, database technology, and application development skills
Proficiency with engineering information systems and applications
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook)
Leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Public speaking, and testimony skills
Analytical, strategic thinking, and logical reasoning skills

- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering
- Valid CA driver’s license
- Eight (8) years of gas operations, engineering, or related experience
- Master of Science (MS) degree in Engineering
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Management and/or supervisory experience
- Knowledge and experience with fluid flow engineering
- Pipeline Simulation Engineering experience (SynerGEE or equivalent)
Knowledge and understanding of PG&E’s gas system hydraulics

Responsibilities
- Manages and reviews strategic programs and initiatives of gas system planning and ensures alignment with PG&E’s gas operations, business strategy, goals, and objectives.
- Manages the operations and control of hydraulic engineering and optimization tools that support daily transmission, distribution, and storage operations.
- Manages and leads the forecasting and optimization of underground gas storage resource utilization including injections, withdrawals, and inventory.
- Leads the supports the outage management process including impact analysis of outages and daily support to transmission gas control in establishing system capacities and optimizing system operations.
- Manages the administration and resolution of system balancing, accounting, therm billing, and gas quality issues.
- Manages and leads gas planning related applications, develops standards and processes, and ensures consistent application of standards and policies within gas system planning.
- Oversees the gas planning quality assurance and control processes, and manages metrics to measure and review performance, standards, and objectives.
- Acts as a liaison with PG&E’s lines of business and external clients to continuously improve gas planning, operations, and performance including minimizing capacity project expenditures and maximizing system reliability.
- Recruits/selects, communicates expectations, fosters employee engagement, coaches, develops, mentors, recognizes and rewards employees in order to drive performance and results. Manages a highly specialized staff of leadership and professional employees.
