Job Position: EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - PARAMEDIC

Pay Classification: Hourly (non-exempt)

Position Purpose: The purpose of an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic at Gold Cross Ambulance is to provide high quality & efficient basic & advanced life support to all persons living in our service area.

Salary and Benefits:

12 Hour Shifts- 42 hour average work week

Weekend Shift Bonus-Friday thru Sunday ($225.00 per night and $150.00 per day)

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Respond to ambulance calls (emergency & non-emergency) to provide efficient and immediate care to all patients.

2) Transport any patients that require continued care to an appropriate medical facility.

3) Transport patients from one medical facility to another per direct order.

4) When dispatched, drives ambulance to location given, using the most expeditious route.

5) Observes traffic ordinances & regulations pertaining to emergency vehicle operation.

6) At a scene, parks the ambulance in such a way to provide a safe environment for emergency medical personnel, the patient & the general public.

7) Determines the nature & extent of illness or injury & establishes priority for required emergency medical care, rendering care to the level of the employees training.

8) Exhibits confidence & efficiency when dealing with patients, avoiding mishandling and undue haste when working expeditiously.

9) Where extrication is required, assesses the extent of injury while caring for & protecting the patient, also using the prescribed techniques & tools for removing the patient safely.

10) Advises dispatch if & when additional help or special rescue services, and/or utility services are needed.

11) Complies with regulations regarding the handling of the deceased, notifying the proper authorities & protecting evidence at the scene.

12) Assists in lifting the stretcher & placing in ambulance while seeing that the patient and stretcher are secured, while continuing patient care as necessary.

13) Constantly monitors patient condition while enroute destination.

14) Maintain communication with medical control at the receiving facility, while following the physician's orders.

15) When unable to communicate with medical control or receiving facility (i.e. telephone at scene, cellular phone, VHF or UHF radios), written protocols will be followed.

16) Properly assists in transferring patients out of the ambulance & into receiving facility.

17) Reports verbally & in writing his/her observations, while caring for the patient at the scene & in transit, to the medical staff receiving the patient.

18) Upon request, provides assistance to the emergency department staff after vehicle is back in "response ready" condition.

19) After each ambulance run, replaces all supplies used, makes careful check of all equipment so that ambulance is ready for the next run.

20) After each ambulance run, completes patient report & distributes copies as directed. If patient care involves the use of medications that require a script for replacement purposes, a physician signature must be obtained.

21) Ensures that assigned ambulance is clean (interior & exterior), kept neat & in an orderly condition.

22) In accordance with local and/or state regulations, decontaminates the interior of the ambulance after transporting victims with a contagious disease or radiation exposure.

23) Maintains familiarity with specialized equipment utilized by Gold Cross Ambulance Service, Inc.

24) Ambulance attendants & drivers should be equally trained regarding each other's duties and responsibilities, so that they may function independently or interchangeably in caring for multiple casualties.

25) In order to provide continued quality assurance, critique fellow employees' patient reports.

Qualifications:

- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent thereof

- Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.

- Current state of Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic licensure.

- Experience related to practicing as a field paramedic / ambulance driving.

- Successful completion of Gold Cross Ambulance's physical proficiency standards.

- Current Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation Certification.

- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.

- Must have a valid driver's license

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $57,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
