Position: Fuel Distribution System Mechanic (FDSM)

Reports to: Site Manager

FLSA: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Fort Hood, TX


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Fuel Distribution System Mechanic (FDSM) performs recurrent periodic or scheduled inspections and minor repairs designed to preserve or maintain equipment, apparatus, or facilities in such condition that they may be efficiently used for their intended purpose. Preventive Maintenance and related functions include; Minor pump repair, lubricating, replacing gaskets and pump seals, tightening loose bolts, repair adjust valves; dismantle various types of valves to replace worn parts, replace gaskets, repack stuffing glands, lubricate, reseat; remove and replace any unit (e.g., valve, spool, strainer housing, or related fuel system component); replace ground wires, clamps and connectors, clean and replace strainers, replace filters; replace fence fabric, minor repair to fence post/gates, including straightening and realignment; Pressure testing hoses and pipelines. Trouble shooting heavy wheeled vehicles, replacing minor heavy wheeled vehicle components (e.g. starter, alternator, air compressor, air regulator, air lines, light assemblies and vehicle mounted fuels related systems). Minor building repairs including window glass replacement, replacing light bulbs, repair of minor roof leaks, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shall have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience and be qualified to operate, inspect, maintain, and repair fuel distribution systems, i.e., fuel storage tanks and pipeline systems, direct refueling systems, and the mechanical, electrical, and computer connected/driven components thereof.
  • Shall have the ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
  • Shall have the ability to operate and maintain maintenance database software.
  • Shall provide appropriate tools to perform maintenance duties.
  • Shall hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Shall be capable of detecting and correcting system component malfunctions, misalignments, leaks, and other adjustment issues and performing scheduled and unscheduled fuel system maintenance.
  • Shall be capable of removing, repairing and replacing minor system components, have a basic knowledge of automatic tank components and gauging systems, high/low level alarms, cathodic protection, and oily water waste systems.
  • Shall have a basic understanding of written description and instructions pertaining to facility operations, shall be able to implement cyclic maintenance programs and safety programs relating to all aspects of facility operation.
  • Shall have demonstrated expertise in spill cleanup procedures, prevention and control measures, related equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Should have practical experience in basic design and layout of petroleum facilities, component makeup, characteristics of fuel storage and distribution systems, and the ability to read and understand base blueprints, and system specifications.
