POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Food Service Helper is responsible for assisting in the preparation, serving and/or packaging of food and for cleaning cooking utensils, surfaces, and appliances; performs related duties as required.

**Work schedules start at 3 hours/day ranging from the hours of 9:30AM-1:00PM**

*Those hired as substitute Food Service Helpers will be paid at $14.52/hour.*

JOB DUTIES:

  • Operates various cooking equipment and machinery to prepare food for student meals;
  • Prepares salads in quantity and/or separates into individual servings;
  • Serves correct portion to students and replenishes items on serving line;
  • Opens and operates cash register; checks items on trays; takes money; makes change, and balances out register at end of meal;
  • Assembles ingredients; mixes; pours; operates equipment; checks cooking process, and stacks finished baked goods;
  • Makes, wraps, and stores sandwiches;
  • Follows safety and hygiene procedures with regard to the food service environment;
  • Sets up serving area by placing individual servings, packaged foods, pans of cooked foods, utensils, and paper goods in position;
  • Assists manager in inventory of foodstuff and equipment; follows procedures for retrieval and disposal of perishable items in inventory;
  • Reviews production sheet to determine preparation work to be done and estimates quantities of foods to be used;
  • Breaks down racks of prepackaged lunches and places them in convection oven;
  • Removes heated lunches from oven and checks temperature with thermometer to insure that the lunches are the proper temperature;
  • Distributes meals to students and insures that the students have the required items;
  • Places individual items in meal package on moving assembly line at Food Service Production Center;
  • Assists Food Service Production Center manager in the stocking and loading of items to be used in production;
  • Completes production location tickets and places tickets on trays to designate number of meals to be delivered; assists in directing activities of student helpers and new Food Service Helpers;
  • Prepares and uses sanitizer solution to wipe down surfaces; sets up sinks for cleaning, sanitizing, and rinsing cooking pans and implements;
  • May assist in the delivery and set up of catered food orders to various locations;
  • May deliver and set up small, catered food orders to various locations.

MINIMUM QUALIFIACTIONS

  • Any combination of coursework, training, or experience that would provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.
  • Possession of a driver's license may be required for some positions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Standing/on feet all day
  • Pushing and pulling carts
  • Bending and stooping
  • Sweeping
  • Occasional use of a ladder
