The Opportunity
Southern New Hampshire University is looking for a Financial Aid Specialist with knowledge of the financial aid life cycle. You will help us with the processing of financial aid following all federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies while also trouble-shooting complex student eligibility evaluation and in-eligibility situations. For this remote position (#LI-Remote), you will report to the Assistant Director of File Review and Packaging.
In this Role You'll Get To:
  • Complete specialized training with us to gain complete understanding of the financial aid cycle, federal regulations and all aspects of internal and external compliance.
  • You will review student files before awarding to complete any federal or institutional verification, C-Flag requirements.
  • Evaluate student files for eligibility of federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs.
  • Review documentation surrounding unusual circumstances by making adjustments or revisions to costs, need, or dependency status.
  • You will need to identify missing, incomplete, or incorrect student information and resolve through communication with the Student Finance Counselors.
  • Troubleshoot processing problems and technical issues with regard to the system and Colleague software.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
What we're Looking For:
  • Employment is dependent upon successful access to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), which requires all federal student loans to be in good standing and not in default and a credit check to review that student loans are not in default
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Experience in a processing or financial aid environment or equivalent education and experience
  • Must have Microsoft Office experience in Word and Excel (can maintain complex spreadsheets)
  • Having experience with verification/c-flag, packaging, loan revisions, direct loan and return of Title IV management, financial literacy or student loan debt/default prevention function and Datatel/Colleague experience is a plus
