The Finance Deputy Director serves as member of the Finance Department executive management team and builds connections and collaboration across department divisions, develops and implements department-wide expectations and policies, and contributes and guides employee development and equity. This is a dynamic position reporting directly to the Finance Director.
The Finance Deputy Director will provide management and decision support for assigned divisions and provide stakeholder services and communications to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Metro Finance has several divisions, including procurement, treasury, public property, financial operations, financial accountability, diversity equity and inclusion and management and budget and the Deputy Director may be responsible for leading a subset of these divisions as determined by the Finance Director.

- Provide day-to-day leadership of assigned divisions to support the Finance Department’s mission and goals.
- Serve as executive lead for specific divisions of the department for evaluation and resolution of various matters, apply continuous process improvement principles to assigned areas of responsibility; make policy decisions and changes as required and ensure effectiveness of the business processes undertaken by the Department.
- Supervise divisional leaders by establishing performance requirements and personal development targets; regularly provides coaching for development.
- Lead, motivate and develop staff by assisting in setting and implementing the tone, climate and vision of the Finance Department and provides direction and oversight for staff, including hiring, coaching, training and evaluating.
- Collaborate with all divisional leadership and finance staff to manage Metro-wide financial activities.
- Identify opportunities for improving reporting, tracking and operational processes and implement policies and procedures to guarantee responsible and effective financial management of Department operations and Metro finances.
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university and ten (years) progressively responsible experience in budgeting, financial administration and /or accounting with 2 years supervisor or management experience.

Valid Driver License

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
- 5 or more years of experience having served in a senior finance leadership role in a complex organization
- Experience applying principles and procedures of governmental accounting, particularly involving financial statement preparations and methods of financial control and reporting, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, General Accounting Board standards and other standards and requirements applicable to local government
- Experience in the principles, practices, laws and regulations applicable to local government financing and the management of public funds
- Experience conducting meetings and effectively presenting information before both financial and non-financial audiences
- Experience with managing complex enterprise business applications including process improvement efforts and development and implementation of technological enhancements
- 5 or more years of experience in working with internal and external auditors
- 5 or more years of experience in financial policy development and monitoring
