Health – Physical Education Faculty Member
Reports to: Dean of School and Provost
Employment Status: 9 months - exempt
Qualifications: Masters or equivalent, minimum; doctorate or terminal degree preferred; Area of specialized training or experience; demonstrates a sincere desire to aid all students. MUST HAVE 18 HOURS AT A GRADUTE LEVEL IN HEALTH- PHYSICAL EDUCATION
General Description: Help students to learn subject matter which will lead toward fulfillment of their potential intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. Directs, assesses, and evaluates the learning experiences of the students along with the assessing the effectiveness of academic programs in which he/she is employed to teach.
Essential Functions:
1. TEACHING: Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, or online courses and in immediate preparation for them; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing teaching materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies and experiential learning projects; reviewing written examinations and papers; supervising independent study projects and supervising or teaching internships or programs. Full-time faculty at OCU are expected to teach a 12 hour load per semester.
2. ADVISING: Student advising includes time spent meeting with students regarding academic, curricular, and career matters. All full-time faculty are expected to advise students after serving in a full-time faculty role for two years.
3. RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY: Although Oakland City University is primarily a teaching institution, we encourage faculty to maintain research and creative activity. Research includes work conducted to create and add to knowledge in a field; expansion and interpretation of existing ideas, theories, and principles; and improvement and application of knowledge.
Creative activity includes sustained artistic endeavor in composition, production, or professional development. Monetary compensation is provided for peer reviewed, published work.
4. SERVICE to the UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY: University service includes service on the Faculty Assembly and university, college, and departmental committees. Professional service implies the use of academic and professional expertise to serve your profession, the community, the state, the nation, and the world.
5. ADMINISTRATION: Administrative responsibilities include major service assignments within a department or college, such as acting as a department head or associate dean.
6. OTHER ASPECTS OF FACULTY PERFORMANCE: Collegiality, as well as professional and ethical conduct, enhances teaching, learning, and the general reputation of all persons in the academy. Therefore, all faculty members are expected to serve in a collegial fashion and in accordance with professional and ethical principles when dealing with other faculty members, students, administrators, and members of the public.
