Facility Services is seeking a Facilities Maintenance-Operations Engineer (FMOE) to operate and maintain building equipment. This will include operation and maintenance of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes, pumps, air handlers, exhaust fans and building automation systems.

Effective January 1, 2023, there will be a salary increase of 2.5% to the minimum and maximum of the range.
Location and hours:
This position will work from the Minneapolis Central Library, located at 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55401. This position also includes the responsibility of Arvonne Fraser and the Pierre Bottineau Library buildings. The work schedule is primarily Sunday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary depending on availability.
About this position type:
This is a full-time, benefit earning position.
In this position, you will:
- Operate, repair, maintain and diagnose building systems and equipment such as, Boilers, Chillers, Cooling towers, Air Handlers, Exhaust fans, pumps, heat exchangers, water heaters, HVAC control systems, 2 types of Building Automation Systems (BAS) Alerton and Johnson Controls Metasys, Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems including, package and split A/C units, DX units, compressors, VFD’s, circulating pumps, and fan units.
- Perform and develop preventative maintenance programs, procedures, and repair of grounds equipment.
- Respond to requests, and coordinate repairs to building systems and equipment.
- Read construction documents and specifications, shop drawings, operation, and maintenance manuals.
- Respond to building emergencies and after hour calls for repair.
- Maintain and prepare reports and logs (e.g., preventative maintenance reports, work order reports, boiler operations logs.
- Interact positively with the public and user groups daily.
- Assist in maintaining the grounds as needed including snow removal to maintain safe conditions.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- Three years or more of one or a combination of the following that equals three years or more:
- Skilled mechanical and facilities maintenance experience that includes: heating ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical and boiler, operation, maintenance and repair work.
- Vocational-technical program course work in air conditioning/refrigeration/heating, electrical maintenance and boiler control, operation and maintenance.
- Completion of the Project for Pride in Living (PPL)/Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC)/Hennepin County Building Operations Technician (BOT) Pathway training program and one year of the required experience.
- Three years or more of one or a combination of the following that equals three years or more:
- A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
- A First-Class C Boilers License or higher.
- Ability to:
- Be on call and/or respond to after hour calls, including weekends, and holidays.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Climb and stand on ladders for prolonged periods of time to perform maintenance on building systems or equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Nice to have:
- Experience:
- In troubleshooting and repairing a wide range of equipment and building systems.
- With plumbing to complete light plumbing maintenance.
- With operating Building Automation Systems (BAS), fire protection systems, Variable Air Volume (VAV), and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.

The Hennepin County Facility Services department provides a full range of facility services for county programs and services. The department:
- Identifies capital needs, responds to and supports capital projects identified by line departments
- Develops and manages projects to construct new buildings, refurbish existing buildings, and maintain infrastructure
