Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant for the Rutgers University Dental Associates Department within the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM). Under general supervision of faculty, the Expanded Duty Dental Assistant performs chair-side, desk-side and sterilization assistance for Rutgers Health University Dental Associates. The Expanded Duty Dental Assistant assists providers during various examinations, treatment of patients and dispenses dental materials and instruments. Performs other clerical and miscellaneous tasks properly aligned with the functions of a Registered Dental Assistant.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Charts examinations under the direction of the oral surgeon.
  • Anticipates the surgeons’ needs during procedures, and supports surgeon during examinations and treatment of patients.
  • Manages post-operative patient care, monitors anesthesia patients in recovery.
  • Works closely with staff nurse to ensure accuracy in patient records (individual, daily, monthly and yearly).
  • Maintains inventory, re-stocks equipment and supplies to ensure efficient clinic operations.
  • Maintains all dental equipment to ensure they are fully operational pre and post procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience

Certifications/Licenses
  • Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) required.
  • Valid Radiological Technology License issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
  • CPR Certification is essential.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Preferred Qualifications
  • BLS trained and certified, a plus.
  • Knowledge of implant surgical components.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of dental experience is highly preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift patients, heavy boxes weighing up to forty (40) pounds, instrument sets weighing up to twenty (20) pounds; must be able to lift surgical supplies above the head.

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
