Under general supervision, the incumbent will:
- Provide ergonomic and safety services to policyholders/accounts with operations that present more complex and difficult risk conditions
- Identify engineering controls and work practices that reduce employee musculoskeletal injuries and workers’ compensation costs
- Perform ergonomic surveys and evaluations for the wide range of businesses that State Fund insures
This is a TELE-WORKING position; working from your residence, which requires frequent travel to assigned accounts with mileage reimbursement.
The primary servicing territory includes about half of California south of Fresno; exact service area to be divided with a colleague at time of hire.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of experience as a safety engineer (ergonomist) or safety consultant in the construction, electrical, or industrial disciplines, conducting safety inspections to identify hazards to worker safety and advise on their abatement in industrial or commercial establishments, government facilities, or construction sites. OR
- Three years of professional construction, electrical, or industrial engineering experience AND
- Equivalent to graduation from college with specialization in engineering or in a field directly related to occupational safety and healthy.
- Note: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Desired Qualifications and Skills for this position are:
- Thorough knowledge/understanding of ergonomics field
- Professional experience providing ergonomic surveys and consultations in the workplace
- Formal education in ergonomics related field
- Effective utilization of ergonomics methodologies and tools to analyze risk and identify recommendations that minimize risk exposures
- Ability to interpret workplace safety regulations regarding worker compensation and occupational safety and health
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to interpret charts, graphs and mechanical relationships
- Effective written and oral communication, including outstanding report writing skills
- Ability to make public presentations and train employees and employers
- Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision and as part of a team
Candidates having one of the following credentials or willingness to obtain certification is highly desired:
- Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE)
- Associate Ergonomics Professional (AEP)
- Certified Industrial Ergonomist (CIE)
- Certified Associate Ergonomist (CAE)

SALARY: $8,757 - $10,955 per month depending on experience.
