About the Position
The purpose of this position is to supervise Epidemiology Disease Investigators in investigating and monitoring known or potential sources of suspected infections and communicable diseases to ensure rapid intervention to prevent the spread of disease.

We Require
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Services, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Two years of experience working with the public conducting health-related field investigations, community outreach, case management, or working in a medical field doing case investigative work or counseling clients
  • One year of experience functioning in a supervisory or lead capacity
  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis

Job Contributions
  • Provide supervision, guidance, direction, and coaching to a group of Epidemiology Disease Investigators
  • Coordinate HAI investigations and follow-up with suspect cases to determine disease origin method of contraction through contact with physicians, hospitals, and healthcare providers per HAI protocols and processes
  • Maintain self-learning and continuous HAI education to serve as an expert resource on existing protocols and processes of HAI investigations
  • Work in concert with healthcare partners to mitigate disease spread
  • Implement work plan for assigned staff, assign work activities, monitor workflow, and review and evaluate work methods and procedures
  • Review investigation records and case documentation, makes recommendations for appropriate case management and case closure
  • Perform quality improvement activities to improve teamwork flow
  • Develop and implement data collection criteria, analyzes case management, and develop disease intervention strategies
  • Interview clients to obtain epidemiological information and determine contacts; this may include conducting home visits and referring patients to medical providers for diagnosis, treatment, and care
  • Maintain case documentation of patient and family encounters
  • Coordinate collection of specimens and submits samples for laboratory testing
  • Track and locate clients or contacts throughout Maricopa County who suffer from or were exposed to a communicable disease
  • Provide related information and education to clients, medical providers, community, and staff
Working Conditions
  • Most work is performed in an office environment
  • Position may require travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles or private vehicles on County business
  • Ability to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency
  • Ability to work on-call periodically
  • Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza, and some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
