Position Summary
This position monitors the sanitation level of establishments by conducting sanitation inspections at local and state permitted establishments frequented by the general public.

Pay Grade: 47

This position is eligible for a HIRING BONUS outlined below:
1st payment of $1,500 paid after completion of six (6) months of service,
2nd payment of $1,500 paid after completion of twelve (12) months of service,
3rd payment of $2,000 paid after completion of eighteen (18) months of service. Minimum Qualifications
100.00% - 1. Two (2) years of experience in an environmental health field. (FDA-ORA-U Web-based Pre and Post Food Safety Certification can be substituted for one (1) year of experience); AND
2. Bachelor"s degree from an accredited college or university in physical, biological, chemical, or environmental health sciences, or related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Evaluates and diagnoses the sanitation level of facilities by inspecting food service establishments, swimming pools, school cafeterias, institutional and hospital dietary areas, day care centers, personal care homes, tattoo/body piercing studios, hotels/motels, and bed and breakfast facilities, etc. according to established procedures.
2. Enforces local and state laws regarding environmental sanitation inspections in permitted establishments.
3. Informs operators of violations of local and state food codes and informs them of enforcement schedules for compliance.
4. Investigates sanitation complaints and food borne illness complaints as necessary.
5. Monitors the sanitation level of permitted establishments by conducting recheck inspections at the established frequency per month/year.
6. Links operators to environmental court by serving violation notices and participates in the prosecution of violators.
7. Assures a competent work force by participating in quality control checks, standardization, and TDA, TDH, and FDA training classes.

8. Partners with the Memphis Restaurant Association, Memphis in May organizers, and other groups to keep them informed of new regulations.

9. Educates and empowers the community by participating in joint training sessions with stakeholders and speaking at community events to enlighten the community on laws and regulations that may affect their access to public facilities.
10. Performs other related duties as required or directed. KSA's
KSAs - 1. Knowledge of the principles of chemistry, biology, and public and or community health, as applied to environmental health.

2. Ability to read and understand laws and apply them correctly during inspections of permitted establishments.

3. Ability to explain to operators the violations noted and the laws that apply, and the enforcement actions necessary.

4. Ability to plan a sensible workday route that minimizes daily miles driven.

5. Ability to plan a workday with a minimum of supervision.

6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in and out of the office.

7. Ability to write legibly and communicate effectively in written and verbal form to diverse clients in the field.

8. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) or similar computer software. Physical Requirements
1. Must be able to stoop, squat, crawl, and perform other physical duties as needed to investigate environmental health complaints as needed.

2. Must be able to lift or pull up to 35 pounds at a time.

3. Must be able to work in all types of weather.

4. Must successfully pass a physical assessment. Special Requirements
1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver license or secure one by date of employment.

2. Must have access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements of automobile insurance upon date of employment.

3. Must be able to occasionally work weekends, altered days or hours as needed.

4. Must successfully complete FDA-ORA-U Web-based Pre and Post Food Safety Courses within six (6) months of hire date.
5. Must maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout the duration of employment. Disclaimer
