Job Summary:

The role of the clinical embryologist is to create, manipulate, and care for human embryos during in vitro fertilization treatment. Clinical embryologists perform andrology and embryology procedures commensurate with their level of expertise and training. Promotion to levels 1-4 are approved according to the training schedule outlined in the Standard Operating Procedure Manual. Communicating with the rest of the healthcare team including doctors, nurses, medical assistants, laboratory technologists, and administrative staff as well as answering patient concerns when necessary.

Essential Job Functions All Levels:

  • Perform all duties and tasks assigned for operation of the embryology laboratory each scheduled workday
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to identify patients' care requirements, focus on their needs and act on them
  • Rotate weekends and holidays as necessary
  • Establishes personal rapport with patients
  • Provides explanations of procedures and testing methodology
  • Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support
  • Ensure chain of custody is followed for every specimen
  • Performing daily and periodic maintenance of all laboratory equipment
  • Operating all laboratory equipment within the manufacturers guidelines
  • Makes necessary measurements and calculations
  • Handles samples and reagents with good aseptic technique
  • Documents results utilizing our electronic medical records
  • Participates in proficiency testing at least 2 events per year in embryology
  • Analyzing technical information
  • Become familiar with and follow standard operating procedures
  • Maintain licensure and certification as required by law
  • Travel to other sites when necessary
  • Identify opportunities for process and quality improvement for patient flow
  • Provide excellent customer service

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in related science including 1 year of chemistry, 1 year of organic chemistry, 2 years of biology, 1 year of calculus, 1 semester statistics
  • Junior Embryologists welcome to apply
  • Excellent dexterity in both hands
  • Extremely good hand/eye coordination
  • Adequate vision (corrected or uncorrected) to utilize microscopy equipment effectively and perform microsurgery
  • Ability to maintain focus and work under pressure and in an isolated clean room environment
  • Educational, Presentation and Listening Skills
  • Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and other Software
  • Clinical experience in Physician Practice
  • Excellent communication, decision making, leadership and problem solving skills

In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) order that all hospitals and nursing homes “continuously require all covered personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.” Upon receipt of a conditional job offer, candidates who are not already vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol. Physical Demands:

May spend a great deal of their professional day walking, standing, moving and manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment and supplies. Ability to lift 20 pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients or objects may involve lifting of up to 50 pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend or twist their body, as well as visual acuity.
