Job Summary:

Reports directly to the Practice Manager and practicing under the supervision of the physicians, this position provides assistance to patients during their visits to the EMG area. The incumbent assists the physicians in performing tasks, which are necessary to ensure quality and efficient delivery of patient care. Incumbent must be able to work well independently as a strong contributing member to our team. Further, the incumbent must demonstrate strong leadership, time management, problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to set priorities and organize facilities to maximize results.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Conducts routine testing as outlined in department scope of practice, policy and procedures, quality assurance standards, and CBOTs. Routine testing includes but is not limited to:
  • Performs neurology procedures including all modalities of Nerve Conduction studies
  • Maintain cleanliness of Exam room and equipment; Prepare EMG testing rooms with clean linen and all necessary equipment and supplies
  • Assist physician in the performance of test by preparing and assisting with anxious, uncooperative or physically challenged patients
  • Schedule patients for Nerve Conduction studies/EMG
  • Send copy of test results to referring physicians, medical records and file copy in office chart
  • Maintains and order supplies and EMG machine parts inventory
  • Outlines the nature of the procedures and tests with the patient. Answers questions patients may have as to hazards or discomforts presented by the test or procedures.
  • Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to tolerate standing long hours, stooping, lifting and assisting patients
  • Documents patient information pertinent to testing to ensure comprehensive, timely, and accurate recording, accounting, and reporting of clinical findings.
  • Interfaces professionally and effectively with physicians, fellow staff, and other disciplines to evaluate and modify testing as needed.
  • Accepts responsibility for professional growth and development.
  • Attends classes, seminars and training sessions designed to promote quality testing and foster team and individual growth. Attends meetings as designated
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent – required.
  • Minimum 12 months clinical experience in field of EMG/NCS/EEG preferred.
  • Graduate of Neurodiagnostic Technology Program or equivalent preferred.
  • EMG/NCS American Board of Registration of Electroenciphalographic and Evoked Potential Technologist (ABRET) certified preferred.
