SD1, a public utility that is responsible for the collection and treatment of Northern Kentucky’s wastewater, as well as regional storm water management, now has an opening in the Dry Creek Plant Maintenance Department for an Electrician. This position will report directly to the Dry Creek Maintenance Team Leader. Hours for this position will be 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, either Monday - Thursday or Tuesday – Friday, 10-hour shifts

Position Description

The Plant Electrician position will be involved in all facets of electrical maintenance and repair of our regional treatment plants. This position will troubleshoot and repair a wide range of electrical equipment and components. Build and repair pump control cabinets. This position will troubleshoot systems that utilize Programmable Logic Controls. This position will thread and bend conduit, and wire up control systems. The work requires confined space entries and lock out / tag out of electrical circuits.

Essential Duties:

• Strong mechanical aptitude needed to remove and re-install pumps and other operating parts included at the treatment plants.
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
• Ability to troubleshoot an electrical circuit by reading schematics or field testing.
• A working knowledge of plumbing, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical components and motor operations, as well as an understanding of rigging and hoisting for moving pumps and equipment.
• Ability to wire and troubleshoot circuits related to a PLC.
• Ability to work in confined spaces inside storage tanks and pits.
• Safely de-energize and lock out an electrical circuit.
• Understand how to safely use electrical meters such as multi-meters, insulation testers and meggers.
• Ability to operate conduit bender and pipe threading machine.

Physical Requirements

• The position will require the ability to regularly lift or move weights of 50lbs, the ability to bend, stoop, crawl and climb in confined spaces (obtainment/maintenance of confined space certification will be required).
• The ability to walk long distances carrying equipment up and down stairs is a requirement for this position.
• The ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time is required of this position.
• The ability to grasp, feel and manipulate parts and tools with hands and fingers is a requirement of the position.
• The ability to visibly observe and listen to equipment for trouble shooting and repair purposes.
• The ability to work on elevated platforms, scissor lifts and ladders.
• Candidates may be exposed to usual noise associated with equipment and plant environment. Candidates may be exposed to odors from plant processes and laboratory field samples. There will be exposure to atmospheric conditions such as heat, cold, dust, fumes, vapors, or mists. Candidate must have the ability to wear required respiratory protection devices (self-contained breathing apparatus – S.C.B.A) in accordance with District policy, including not having facial hair that interferes with the face piece-to-face seal.

Required Education/Training:

• Candidates must have an active journeyman's electrical license, with at least 3 years commercial/Industrial electrical trade experience
• Strong understanding of NEC
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• A minimum of a high school diploma/GED
• Proficiency with computers and mobile computing devices including experience with uploading files from a computer to a device or piece of equipment
