Goodheart-Willcox Publisher, Experts in Career and Technical Education (CTE), is seeking an Editor for the Family & Consumer Sciences group. The Editor will act in a lead role for managing multiple projects through the editorial process. This individual also takes full ownership of projects including developing text, supplements, and any other supporting materials. The ideal candidate possesses market expertise, utilizes a customer-centric approach to editorial work, collaborates closely with authors, and provides guidance and advice to help create market-leading products.
What you’ll do:
- Work with authors and the publishing team to successfully manage revisions/new products from planning through publication.
- Assist with reviewing, establishing, and executing product development and market development plans for new or revised titles.
- Monitor and manage progress of development to ensure timely editorial delivery as planned.
- Provide direction, guidance, and feedback to authors/outside developers throughout the manuscript development process with respect to text narrative, illustrations, pedagogy, and supplements.
- Facilitate and execute each step of the development, editing, and production preparatory stages for both core and supplemental products. This includes accuracy checks, accessibility planning and preparation, deliverable planning and tracking, formatting, and proper preparation of manuscript materials for the downstream customer to ensure accurate, timely, and complete execution of each step in the development process.
- Edit, research, verify accuracy of content, and write (as needed) manuscripts for products.
- Edit, design/create, and obtain illustrations, tables, charts, and photographic images for products.
- Help find and choose qualified reviewers. Work with reviewers to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of manuscripts.
- Present product information to sales staff at annual sales conference, and periodically as needed for specific products to facilitate sales. Help develop or review catalog copy and other promotional pieces.
- Provide in-house training about assigned product line and deliver reports or presentations, and attend meetings throughout the Company’s building, and off-site, if necessary.
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor degree required.
- Minimum of four years of experience editing, working with educational content development, instructional design, or teaching business and computing content and course material.
- Excellent knowledge of basic language skills needed to perform editing tasks, specifically, sufficient grammar and usage skills to edit manuscripts and create text copy at a level acceptable to Goodheart-Willcox publishing standards.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Windows.
- Understanding of state- or certification-based educational standards, as well as experience correlating and editing educational materials to those standards.
- Degree in English, Publishing Studies, or Journalism preferred.
- Interest, experience, or aptitude in one or more specific subject areas in Business, Computing, and Career preferred.
- Experience in editing K-12 educational products and post-secondary materials.
