By joining our company in Visalia, CA, you will be part of a dynamic team and have the opportunity to grow professionally in an environment that rewards creativity and dedication. We are currently seeking to strengthen our Production Engineering Team with the addition of a Drafting Technician.

Position Description

This position reports to the Production Engineering Manager. This position will create original technical drawings, modify existing technical drawings, and perform various drafting duties as required.

Qualifications

Drafting Technician position requires that the candidate have an A.S. degree in drafting and/or achieved advanced training in a related field.

Minimum Requirements

· Must demonstrate ability to create original detailed drawings from preliminary engineering sketches, to be used as critical documentation for manufacturing of electronic components, fixtures, and assemblies.

· Must demonstrate proficiency of using AutoCad (version currently being used by VMI) and SolidWorks.

· Must demonstrate capability using additional software that is currently required for documentation support.

· Requires 2-year college degree in related area. Previous experience or alternative formal training will be considered.

· Must work effectively and efficiently with limited or no supervision.

· Must demonstrate ability to interact effectively and efficiently with co-workers and supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work Assignments. Work assignments will be directed by the Desing Engineering Manager and will require performing various documentation support. You will be required to prioritize your work assignments to accommodate continually changing needs.

Prototype/Production Drafting. Most work will involve creating or revising technical drawings. This position requires accurate drawing and dimensioning. Accuracy is critical and impacts highly sensitive customer applications. Attention to detail is vital.

Read Technical Drawings/Schematics. You will frequently be required to accurately read electrical schematics, accurately document dimensions and tolerances, and supply completed drawing package to production assembly area.

Electronic Component Identification. You will be required to accurately identify electronic components that are commonly used in VMI products. This will include diodes, capacitors, resistors, transistors, transformers, and various integrated circuits.

Mechanical Component Identification. You will be required to accurately identify hardware, assembly shells, potting materials, wire types, connectors, screws, inserts, thread types, and various items used in manufacturing of VMI products.

Drafting Equipment. Extensive use of computers, printers, and CAD software is required. This position requires thorough knowledge of required equipment and software.

Domestic / International Drawings. You will be required to read, interpret, and document drawings for U.S. customers as well as international customers. This requires knowledge and competence in English and Metric units. This also requires knowledge and competence in European rotation of drawings.

Design of Solutions: You will be required to support projects initiated by VMI Engineering, Production Supervision, Sales Supervision and others to generate design solutions and associated documentation for fixtures, jigs, molds, tooling, equipment, circuit boards, marketing tools, etc. These solutions require a high level of skill and must be verified prior to being considered for this position. These skills and support are beyond the skills typically required in a typical Senior Drafting Tech level position.
