JOB DESCRIPTION

Title… Dispatcher / Batch

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for scheduling, assigning, and communicating work orders to Ready Mixed (R/M) Drivers to ensure that production, operations, and projects are completed in a professional, timely, safe, and cost-effective manner utilizing our dispatching system.

Due to the nature of our industry, we require flexibility and irregular works hours, including Saturdays. Work schedules are based on the workload for that day. It is our expectation that you will be able to devote as much time as needed to meet the essential functions of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED with 6 months-1-year of working experience in an office/clerical environment. Dispatching experience with communication, organization, and time management skills is preferred. Proven ability to operate company phone lines in a professional and courteous manner, and to operate office equipment and field equipment conducive to performing job responsibilities, conforming to company personnel and safety procedures and policies. Physical and mechanical stamina to complete the following frequency of tasks:

a) Operating company pickup trucks as needed.

b) Knowledge of the Omaha/Council Bluffs Metro Area.

c) Ability to read, write and understand directions (north, south, east, west) maps for the delivery area.

d) Communicate professionally, clearly, and positively with customers as well as order takers and other departments in a timely and efficient manner.

e) Reliable and consistent attendance are essential to performance in this role.

f) Must possess excellent verbal skills.

g) Work in a team setting and achieve team, customer, and company goals.

h) Ability to read, write and accurately perform basic mathematical functions.

i) Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Physical and Mechanical Stamina to complete the following frequency of tasks:

a) Lift up to 50 lbs. utilizing safe and proper lifting techniques.

b) Safely climb up and down plant stairs, trucks, and ladders 1-2 hrs. a day.

c) Ability to sit, stand and walk 8-12 hrs. a day.

d) Ability to reach and bend at the knees 20-40 times a day utilizing proper

ergonomic principles (lifting, stretching, kneeling, pivoting feet, etc.).

e) Work well under pressure meeting customer/project schedules, handle tasks

concurrently and perform under pressure. 8-10+ hrs. a day.

f) Be flexible, able to work required overtime, Saturdays, and available

early mornings; based upon customer order times.

g) Specific vision requirements (with corrections) would include close vision,

distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability

to adjust focus.

h) Ability to use hands for typing, dispatching, and radio communications.

Dispatcher must understand the importance of wearing required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required and set forth in the company’s injury prevention program.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment must meet the above qualifications, task frequency and PPE requirements. Approval of pre-employment reference check, skill assessment testing, MVR (motor vehicle report), and approval of post-offer drug/alcohol test are conditions of employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Utilizing our software programs, you are responsible for using the appropriate ingredients and admixtures, adjusting batch weights and quantities as needed.

2. Verify each load for yardage, mix, added products and all other quality information.

3. Loading concrete into mixer trucks and/or trailers and producing reports necessary to verify the concrete meets specifications.

4. Closely monitor cycle times, production, and delivery status; adjust assignments to ensure production and delivery efficiency while organizing large numbers of people and equipment.

5. Track external factors such as weather and traffic in real-time to ensure optimized routing of resources. Resolve transportation conflicts.

6. Provide excellent telephone, email, and personalized customer service conforming to Platte River Concrete Co.’s quality, safety, and professional standards (punctuality, reliability, language, personal hygiene, clothing, etc.) in a timely manner.

7. Screen calls in a professional and friendly manner and address service, employee, and sales concerns through the appropriate channels. If needed, complete messages in an accurate and detailed manner by utilizing reflective listening skills.

8. General knowledge of the properties, characteristics, and performance of concrete mixes, its components, additives, and raw materials, is preferred – but will train.

9. Assist as needed, in assigning sand, gravel, and concrete work orders to R/M drivers, meeting client contractor satisfaction and quality of the product.

10. Provide accounting, clerical, and administrative support to office personnel. This will include the timely and accurate completion of paperwork as it complies with company and legal standards. (Example: accounts receivable/payable, maintenance orders, truck inspections),

11. Direct any federal or state inquiries (OSHA, LB 757, Department of Labor, etc.) to the Safety or General Manager for consultation and direction.

12. Attend company, customer, and/or state-sponsored safety and training events, including certification, licensing, and/ or education requirements targeted for continuing growth and development.

13. Be an example by personally adhering to the company’s Injury Prevention Program. Report all safety concerns directly to Management immediately.

14. Monitor weather, truck demand graphs, production and delivery statuses, will calls, GPS, and dispatching system; suggest adjustments for delivery and/or production efficiency. Report any deviation from scheduling guidelines to dispatch immediately.

15. Attend required safety meetings with management, dispatching, field/plant personnel for the purpose of recapping production, planning organizing current and future production, and worksite personnel/safety policies and procedures.

16. Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

RELATIONSHIPS:

1. Respect the authority of management and perform any other duties assigned by them.

2. Cooperates with the President, General Manager, Safety Manager, Human Resources, customers and all employees within the company.

3. Accountable to the Plant Manager for proper interpretation and fulfillment of responsibilities.

4. Develop a positive rapport with drivers, supervisors, and customers to communicate all activities to appropriate parties.

5. Communicate in an effective manner with all plant and operations personnel to ensure that the assigned shipping area has the proper resources, personnel, and trucks available to provide superior customer service.
