Job title—Dishwasher.

Job Location—Broken Yolk Cafe (BYC).

Classification—Nonexempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Salary level—Hourly.

Essential functions

  • Attention to detail following directions:
  • Dish machine & 3 comp sink operations.
  • Wash-Rinse-Sanitize (W-R-S)
  • Dish machine assembly, cleaning, maintenance and care.
  • Chemical safety, use and dilution specifications.
  • Chemical testing strips to maintain proper dilution.
  • Presoaking of utensils/equipment/Smallwares and use of 3-compartment sink.
  • Cleanliness and organization.
  • Maintenance of organization in workspace and all storage areas.
  • Keeping workspace clean and organized at all times.
  • Placing only clean & sanitized equipment & utensils on clean drying racks.
  • Following all air-drying procedures in work station to prevent contamination of all dishware and utensils
  • Following all local, state and federal food safety regulations.
  • Quality control;
  • Double wash of all silverware after first run presort.
  • No food particles remaining on dishware & equipment after dishwasher run.
  • All large equipment (cutting boards) are properly W-R-S and stored.
  • Ensuring al chemicals and chemical pods are installed and used correctly.
  • Corrects issues that affect proper dish & Warewashing procedures.
  • Attention to detail for guest presentation of all service ware.
  • Understands use and procedures of dishwashing and appliance cleaning tools.
  • Following and in-compliance with all Food Safety practices.
  • Following and in-compliance with all Personal Hygiene and food safety hygiene practices.
  • Team player with teammates; cooks, bussers, servers and supervisors.
  • Positive, energetic & friendly personality utilizing all company established standards.
  • Includes adhering to all established company uniform standards.
  • Stocking station;
  • All stations; delivering and stocking of plates and service ware.
  • Chemicals.
  • Cleaning tools and supplies.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing inside station area.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all cooking equipment parts.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all storage containers, Smallwares in 3 compartment sink.
  • Adhering to all food safety standards in setup and breakdown of 3 compartment sink.
  • Cleaning; sweeping, scrubbing and mopping of all station floors.
  • Cleaning of weekly deep cleaning tasks.
  • Use of ladder is required during some cleaning process/projects.
  • Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all cleaning and trash removal.
  • Use of rubber or disposable plastic aprons.
  • Use of rubber gloves when using cleaning tools to scrub and clean
  • Use of rubber gloves or disposable gloves is required when cleaning and/or trash collection.
  • Disposable gloves must be discarded after each use.
  • Wash hands thoroughly prior to returning to your workstation or other task.
  • Rubber gloves must be washed with soap and water after each use and allowed to air dry.
  • Wash hands thoroughly prior to returning to your workstation or other task.
  • Conduct opening duties to prepare station for opening (shift readiness).
  • Midday/Side work duties to maintain appearance and sanitation standards of station.
  • Closing duties to prepare station for next day.
  • Assist with cleaning, sanitation, organization and maintenance of kitchen as directed adhering to proper food handling and storage standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management staff.
  • Informing management of any and all concerns with product quality, ingredient shortages or equipment issues creating barriers in providing great product quality to our guests.
  • Report workplace injuries as soon as reasonably responsible, but in no event later than leaving the workplace or within 8 hours.

Supervisory responsibilities

  • No direct reports.

Work environment

  • Primary work environment is in a wet humid dishwashing station. Temperatures range from 70F-80F with higher-than-normal humidity;
  • Standing and working in standing water.
  • Below 40F while working in walk-in refrigeration.
  • Noise level can be loud at times due to dishwashing machine operations & kitchen equipment.

Physical demands

  • Lift and/or move up to approximately 50 pounds frequently.
  • Bending/stooping/kneeling required – frequently.
  • Climbing ladders – occasionally.
  • Routine standing for duration of shift (up to 8 hours).
  • Ability to work varied hours and days including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Position type and expected hours of work

  • Part time to 32 hours/week or more, working shifts as early as 5:00 AM working shifts as late as 4:00 PM, schedule work shifts from 4- 8 hours, with occasional meeting/training shifts of 2 hours.
  • Due to unexpected business demands overtime (shifts greater than 8 hours) may be required.
  • Working hours can be included weekends and holidays.

Required education and experience

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Generally, 1+ years of dishwashing/porter experience
  • Demonstrated cleaning and organization skills. Ability to multi-task.
  • Must have an aptitude and enthusiasm to learn about brand products available to our guest.

Preferred education and experience

  • Additional education and kitchen experience.

Additional eligibility qualifications

  • Food Safety Training to meet local regulations.
