POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Associate Director of Laity Training

Classification: Exempt

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Leadership Development (in collaboration with Director of Ministry Innovation and Congregational Vitality)

Supervisory Responsibility:

POSITION OVERVIEW

As part of the Leadership Development team, the Associate Director for Laity Training develops, coordinates, and implements the conference laity training programs in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. These programs include Lay Servant Ministries (LSM), Lay Missioner, Certified Lay Ministry (CLM), and Lay Church Planting as part of laity leadership development for the CA-NV conference. The position relates to the Conference Committee on Lay Leadership Development. This is a full-time position working at the conference office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Effectively collaborate with the Director of Ministry Innovation and Congregational Vitality and the Director of Leadership Development to plan, coordinate and implement all aspects of the lay church planting program for effective implementation.

Work with the CLM Advisory Team to design, coordinate and implement a high-quality CLM program for church vitalization and contextual ministry.

Provide staff support to the Conference Coordinator of Lay Servant Ministries (a volunteer elected position) and the Lay Servant Ministries (LSM) Team to plan the yearly LSM course schedule, and the development, communication and implementation of all aspects of the LSM program.

Coordinate the Lay Missioner program in collaboration with the Conference Committee on Hispanic Latino Ministries and the Executive Director of Connectional Ministries. Work with the National Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry to ensure smooth delivery of courses and coursework.

Recruit and develop a set of language coordinators for each cultural community to ensure that all laity training programs is multicultural: that the training is contextualized for each cultural group, that a varied set of communication channels and strategies are utilized to enlist participants. Work with pastors of color and their key lay leaders who are crucial partners in this effort.

Develop a diverse instructor pool and assign instructors in consultation with the key stakeholders for each of the programs.

Design effective communication to create awareness of laity development opportunities among clergy and laity and to recruit participants for each program.

Work in partnership with the senior administrative assistant to carry out the administrative functions of laity training: registration, course offerings, tracking of course completion, certification, and evaluation.

Work with pastors and DSs to support students in their discernment process before, during, and after the training.

Stay up-to-date with Discipleship Ministries and other organizations for new courses and relevant initiatives related to equipping laity for discipleship and service as well as church planting.

Provide staff support to the Conference Lay Leadership Development Committee.

Other duties as assigned.

  • Willingness to travel and work during some evenings and weekends

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree or AA with 5 years of progressive experience in program development, coordination, and implementation

EXPERIENCE

  • Program development and coordination
  • Experience with providing training in a faith-based background
  • Leading teams from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in developing leaders or networks of leaders to collaborate, innovate, and implement ministry goals
  • Developing/mentoring/guiding people in and toward leadership
  • Proven effectiveness in working consultatively with pastors, district superintendents, conference staff and conference leaders
  • Ability to facilitate high performing ministry teams.
  • Experience using Google Classroom and social media for campaigns, instruction, or discipleship, a plus.
