Director of Programming

A synagogue is a house of study, a meeting place, and a center for the spirit. Founded in 1916, Congregation B'nai Emunah has served a diverse community of people who approach their Judaism and enact Jewish values in many different ways for over one hundred years. We are a self-confident religious center committed to constant experimentation. With supportive and stable leadership in place and as part of Tulsa’s interfaith tapestry, we see ourselves as a home for serious social activism, engaging educational experiences, essential cultural connections, and innovative thinking that will shape the next hundred years of Jewish life in Tulsa.

As the Director of Programming at the Synagogue, you will play a critical role in facilitating high-touch, warmth-filled experiences for members, friends, participants, and clients of the Synagogue’s diverse programming. Equally comfortable managing the logistics of large-scale events, developing new outlets for engagement and involvement, and building one-on-one relationships with members and volunteers, you love meeting people where they are and connecting them to each other and shared experiences. You want to ensure everyone feels at home and part of our extended family when they encounter the Synagogue.

Who You Are:

You are a team-oriented self-starter who thrives in a mission-driven, small-scale, high-performance work environment. While open to constant experimentation, you are familiar with Jewish values, customs, and rituals as practiced within families and communities. You are eager to help create vibrant Jewish life for people of many different backgrounds and experiences through the programmatic calendar of a Synagogue. You see Judaism as a lens to address issues of broad-ranging concern and can translate those ideas into experiences for others.

You are experienced in managing many projects at one time and can easily move from concept to execution- the type of person who can take a new idea and turn it into a reality, all while attending to the daily needs of ongoing programming and events.

The Nuts and Bolts:

  • Serve as the key facilitator of the programmatic life of the Synagogue. This includes a variety of responsibilities, from the arrangements, logistics, and coordination of events to ideation and experimentation with new forms of engagement and involvement.
  • Create, facilitate, and lead experiences that speak to the diverse cohorts and constituencies within the congregation and beyond
  • Prepare press releases, articles, notices, and postings that tell the story of the Synagogue by highlighting our successes, sharing upcoming opportunities, and contributing to the organization’s profile in the broader community.
  • Solve problems and produce solutions with the Synagogue’s professional and lay leadership, identifying alternatives when circumstances change and seeking additional responsibilities.
  • Engage volunteers in meaningful roles that enhance a sense of community, investment, and shared responsibility.
  • Handle the technological needs of the congregation and strategize on future needs related to in-person/hybrid/virtual programming and event production, which includes sound, light, recording, post-production, and management of digital culture.

What makes you shine:

  • Familiarity with creating client-oriented experiences that translate into deeper relationships
  • A knack for all things hospitality. You love making people feel at home and are ready to roll out the red carpet for your guests.
  • You like working in a small organization where collaboration and communication are essential, but independent work is highly encouraged, and where everybody rolls up their sleeves to make things happen.
  • Previous experience navigating relationships with many different audiences. Everyone matters to you, from the caterer cooking food in our kitchen to board members in lay leadership roles.
  • You know what goes into pulling off large-scale events. You are ready to take a vision and turn it into reality, anticipating obstacles and proactively mitigating them.
  • A willingness to learn and master new skills that expand your professional toolkit and enhance the programmatic offerings of your workplace.
  • A history of passionate engagement with Jewish life and deep vested interest in the future of American Jewish institutions
  • 5+ years of working experience
  • Graduate education/experience in Jewish fields including Jewish non-profits, Rabbinic Studies, Education, and more is very welcome but not required to be considered
