Director of Policy Job at The Kaufman Group
Summary of Duties:
Prominent boutique law firm with thriving governmental affairs and land use practice serving the greater San Antonio area is seeking a Director of Policy to add to their team. The Firm has numerous clients ranging from global corporations to local non-profits and a variety of business and real estate interests. Zoning and/or land use experience a plus, but not required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Attend meetings, events and/or government hearings as needed
· Provide written synopsis/external communication of meetings and hearings for assigned clients
· Research and monitor assigned local and state legislation/policy that could affect Firm’s clients
· Provide written synopsis/policy briefs on all issues pertaining to Firm’s clients and business
· This role requires keeping abreast on all current events and related legislative activities of clients
· Project management duties as directed
· Assist team members with strategic planning
· Collaborate with industry advocates to build areas of common interest
· Interest in joining trade associations and industry committees and eventually seek leadership roles
Required Qualifications and Skills:
· Minimum 2-5 years professional experience in government relations, advocacy, public policy and/or project management
· Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Public Relations or related field
· Law degree would be a bonus
· Experience in governmental affairs and/or public policy is strongly preferred
· Knowledge of local government and legislative procedures a plus
· Superior oral and written communication skills
· Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and organizational skills
· Highest level of professionalism and integrity are required
· Computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media
· Ability to work effectively and independently in a fast-paced environment
· Pivot quickly on a daily basis to meet client needs
· Manage multiple projects successively to meet frequent deadlines
· Strict attention to detail and follow-through on work
· Consistently think ahead about next steps in working with clients
· Commitment to creative problem solving and collaboration
· Ability to serve high-profile clients and adhere to upmost confidentiality at all times
· Proven record of establishing and maintaining strong relationships
· Success driven
This position requires in-person attendance at public, private and client meetings, governmental and business events.
