Job Description

Purpose:

With broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, is responsible for overall inpatient bed management as it relates to patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Ensures operational efficiency and timely patient flow with bed placement. Develops standard work, policies and procedures for the Department of Admissions; performs related work.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The Admissions Officer level II is charged with and responsible for:

Responsible for the performance of all admitting functions including serves as the liaison between the Admissions Office and the medical staff, support services and nursing for admission/transfer/discharge decisions, bed availability and utilization.

Establishes operational goals and leads performance improvement initiatives related to patient flow in partnership with other departments.

Develops efficient workflows to ensure timely assignment of patients to the appropriate level of care beds. Establishes a algorithm to ensure beds are allocated with prioritization across the service lines - ED, Perioperative Services, Mother Baby, Behavioral Health and Critical Care – as well as intra- and interhospital transfers

Proactively rounds on units and partners with nursing leadership to identify and track all expected discharges to ensure capacity for admissions

Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures and ensures compliance.

Esablishes standard work and assignments for Admitting staff, drives accountability and continuously evaluates performance. Prepares work schedules and insures compliance with procedures and policies.

Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of all admission and preadmission forms.

Creates and maintains a structure around multidisciplinary meetings and huddles to ensure active bed management.

Engages staff in the department and fosters a culture of shared decision-making.

Responsible for census management involving the compiling and maintenance of accurate patient census, bed availability and collection of all related statistics. Works with Senior leadership to develop and/orredesign reports as required

Responsible for the patient valuables management process.

Assists in preparation and administration of Admission Department’s budget.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Baccalaureate Degree issued upon the completion of a four-year course in Business Administration or related discipline from an accredited college and one year of fulltime experience in a progressively responsible supervisory or administrative position, performing admissions duties, in a hospital or similar institution with one-hundred-and-fifty or more beds; or,
2. High school Diploma or evidence of having passed an examination for a High School Equivalency Diploma plus five years of full-time experience as described in (1) above; or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
