Mount Alverna Village is looking for a Director of Development
Full-Time, Exempt
The Director of Development is responsible for providing leadership in securing philanthropic support for the mission of Mount Alverna Village. Responsible for the planning, administration, and implementation of all development goals, objectives and initiatives of the community. Also responsible for maintaining the community’s data base and procures and cultivates long-term relationships with prospective donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Assessment-- Identifies and evaluates prospective donors (individuals, corporations, foundations, groups) for the Community through examination of past records, individual and corporate contacts, and knowledge of the community.
- Planning and Leadership-
- Prepares an Annual Plan of planned activities and measurable goals, enlisting support from members of the community staff and volunteer organizations
- Develops and ensures adherence to FSCSC fundraising policies noting tools, materials and resources needed.
- Provides ongoing staff education regarding the appropriate protocols of development and education and training to volunteers to ensure that volunteers are equipped to work on behalf of the Community.
- Implementation – Fundraising
- Researches public and private grant agencies and foundations to identify sources of funding for appropriate needs, projects, opportunities for community service, and/or other projects.
- Responsible for cultivation of major donors and local civic organizations.
- Organizes solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals, corporations, and foundations to the Annual Fund, Memorial Fund, and special events.
- Plans and coordinates fund drives for special projects.
- Researches, collects data and interviews staff to prepare funding requests to Foundations and other funding sources.
- Prepares and when appropriate, assist in presenting proposals to prospective donors.
- Organizes direct mail campaign to reach other potential contributors.
- Plans and coordinates planned benefit events such as banquets, golf outings, or auctions.
- Informs potential contributors of special needs of institution, and encourage individuals, corporations, and foundations to establish or contribute to special funds through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kind, or bequests, conferring with attorneys to establish methods of transferring funds to benefit both donors and institution.
- Is responsible for writing news and feature stories for all Community activities in cooperation with the Director of Marketing.
- Oversees a continuing Stewardship program of donor acknowledgment, appreciation and recognition.
- Serves as spokesperson, when requested, to the community regarding the charitable needs and activities of Mount Alverna Village.
- Documentation-
- Processes, records, tracks all contributions
- Possesses a working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge fundraising software.
- Maintains accurate records of contributors and grants and prepares letters of appreciation to be sent to contributors.
- Prepares and submits fundraising activities and income reports on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Develops special appeals letters and fundraising brochures for approval of the V.P. of Ministry Development and Executive Director.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor level education in an applicable area of study required, (CFRE) Certified Fund Raising Executive and/or advanced university program certificate desired.- 3-5 years relevant fundraising and philanthropic experience.
- Computer literacy.
- Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP) preferred
