Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. The team is responsible for designing, building and operating our unified global datacenters, managing the demand planning and capacity utilization of our unified infrastructure, and responsible for all of the operations needed to run the physical infrastructure (including supply chain, hardware, power, security, and workflow teams).
The CO+I, Datacenter business, is looking to fill the critical role of Constructions Claims and Warranty Director for AMER. The CO+I Supply Chain organization is responsible for delivering Datacenter Procurement for Microsoft’s cloud business. We have a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million, multi-year Datacenter construction and lease projects. As a member of the Supply Chain Leadership team, you will be responsible for Claims and Warranty Management for Microsoft Datacenters in the Americas region. The role involves direct engagement with our partners across our Datacenter organization as well as our internal teams within broader Microsoft.
The Constructions Claims and Warranty Director for AMER is responsible for overseeing the process of resolving disputes and claims with our suppliers in the region. This includes working closely with the procurement execution and category management team to identify and assess claims, and settlements. Constructions Claims and Warranty Director for AMER will also be responsible for tracking, analyzing, negotiating and executing them end to end. This leader will identify trends and areas for improvement in the supplier’s performance and drive initiatives as required. This role also includes executing and documenting claims and following warranty policies and procedures, executing strategies to reduce claims and warranty costs and improve supplier performance.

Responsibilities
Contracts Claims Resolution
- Implement and follow the global framework for Contracts Claims Resolution for all Americas Supply Chain (GSC) Managed scope.
- Work with the Global Claims Leader and key CO+I stakeholders along with peer groups in Global Supply Chain (Category Management & Procurement, Quality, Transformation) and the CO+I partner teams (CELA, Corporate Risk, Finance) to execute and improve results.
- Analyze available data and specific cases for adherence to contracts and the instances and resolutions of claims across the Americas DSC portfolio. Develop execution and response plans and recommend program changes as needed.
- Seek support and collaborate on contractual claims processes in conjunction with Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA).
- Lead and/or collaborate in the negotiation process of claims.
- Monitors the impact of change orders to the underlying business case, which could result in a future claim negotiations.
Claims Mitigation
- Implement and execute the global framework for Claims Mitigation in the region.
- Collaborate with Data Center Global Supply Chain (GSC), CELA and Corporate Risk Teams
- Drive, Lead and/or execute initiatives and programs across teams and suppliers to help mitigate and reduce opportunity for claims.
Claims Prevention
- Implement and execute the global framework for Claims Prevention
- Partner with Category management and Procurement teams in GSC to execute and monitor the established contract drafting and approval process that ensures outcome of contracts are clear and enforceable.
- Focus on de-escalation of potential claims through effective stakeholder management to reduce risk of issues reaching full claims status.
- Analyze claims data to identify trends and areas for improvement for suppliers or through internal processes.
Claims Metrics, Dashboard, and Analytics
- Develop & implement supplemental data, metrics, dashboards, and analytics for the instances, causes, and resolutions of contract claims across the Americas GSC portfolio as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of claims and settlements in the company's systems.
- Partner with Risk Management Team (Cost QRA process) and the Global Claims Leader to ensure that claims risks are considered and allowances are made in cost / schedule assessments in projects or metros.
Warranty
Metrics, Dashboard and Analytics
- Develop & implement supplemental data. metrics, dashboard, and analytics for the instances, causes, negotiations and resolutions of warranty claims across the Regional GSC portfolio.
- Track and analyze warranty claims data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce warranty costs and improve supplier performance

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 8+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement

OR equivalent experience.

- 5+ years of experience with claims resolution.
- 5+ years of experience with complex negotiation strategies and execution.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
- Prior experience with a contractor, EPC or a professional consulting services firm.
- Contract management experience.
- Understanding of national and international construction contracts and the relevant processes and procedures.
- Capable of conducting detailed project claim reviews and negotiations with support from the wider regional team and/or category managers.
- Wide-ranging experience of roles and positions within the construction industry including roles with clients and contractors/subcontractors.
Business Program Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $292,200 per year.
