Current Opportunity – Director, Business Development & Sales Engineering, Austin, TX

What is the role? The Ed-Fi Alliance is currently interviewing for a Director, Business Development & Sales Engineering to build the Ed-Fi Alliance footprint and support adopters to implement Ed-Fi technology components, including the full suite of technology solutions and strategies. The Director, Business Development & Sales Engineering drives and promotes the market-leading Ed-Fi technology and community in a hands-on, external-facing leadership role. This role requires that the person is based in Austin, TX.
The Position:
The Director, Business Development & Sales Engineering reports to the President, Ed-Fi Alliance, and manages the Sales Engineer This person is responsible for:
  • Driving adoption of Ed-Fi technology across the US public education sector
  • Assisting executives and other senior directors in defining organizational goals and strategic plans
  • Having extensive business knowledge with comprehensive understanding of “sales” funnel design, planning, and monitoring, with hands on execution
  • Partnering with the Ed-Fi Marketing team in the planning and delivery of sales resources including content, tools, knowledge, coaching, and information to effectively engage “buyers”
  • Guiding the ongoing development of Ed-Fi technology by providing the ‘voice of the field’ as input to technology and organizational road maps
  • Overseeing the creation of sales monitoring tools and resources to drive organizational alignment, improve “buyer” engagement, and improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the sales process
  • Interacting closely with marketing, web, and customer success teams to determine gaps in current content, collateral, offerings, and resources
  • Ensuring we can successfully engage the buyer throughout the technology adoption lifecycle
  • Creating, monitoring, and using analytics and data to monitor results
  • Leading, guiding and managing Sales Engineering efforts and team
Core Responsibilities:
  • Ed-Fi Alliance Evangelist and Market Development Lead. Communicate Ed-Fi technology vision and road map with passion. Pursue market development activities and develop customer channels to secure new adopters and expand Ed-Fi adoption footprint. Secure commitments from school districts and vendor organizations. Pursue opportunities to advocate and promote Ed-Fi Alliance at external technical conferences and events.
  • Lead and Manage Sales Engineering and Technical Assistance Lead(s). Provide Ed-Fi technology expertise, sales engineering, and technical assistance to adopters both pre- and post-licensing to ensure their success.
Ideal Qualifications: The ideal candidate has both consulting and technical project experience with the following experience and skill set:
  • 8-10+ years’ experience in a technology leadership role involving product management, project management, system architecture, and product outreach/evangelism experience
  • At least 2 years’ recent experience in the education sector, preferably in a role selling to or supporting large school districts; existing C-level relationship network of school districts and/or education vendors a plus
  • Ability to identify opportunities, requirements, and product priorities from client engagements, stakeholder meetings, and the overall technology landscape
  • Experience owning the relationship, stakeholder management process and execution (for example, leading and working with peer groups and external stakeholders to accomplish shared goals)
  • Excellent technical skills, a demonstrated knowledge of emerging technologies, and an enthusiasm around using technology to solve business problems
  • Familiarity with multiple hardware and software technology platforms and deep expertise in data exchange, transformation, and storage
  • Familiarity with multiple software development methodologies and languages, development experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated willingness to own the total problem and drive resolution regardless of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to research complex issues to ensure thorough understanding of requirements and rules
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation
  • Outstanding organization, problem solving, decision making and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree is required, graduate degree preferred
