Job Title: Data Scientist - Hydrometeorology
Location: Silver Spring, MD & Tuscaloosa, AL - Remote
Clearance: Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance

Description:

IBSS is seeking to fill a position to provide data science and software support to the National Weather Service (NWS) Office of Water Prediction. The candidate shall support the Atlas 15 program with the creation of precipitation extremes data taking into account a changing climate.

Key Responsibilities:

• In coordination with the team, develop data-related plans including resource requirements and schedules for Atlas 15-related projects and programs.
• Work with the Project Investigators (PIs) from NOAA and academia to validate and improved methods developed for the Atlas 15 framework.
• Organize and maintain technical documents and data libraries utilizing electronic records management best practices.
• Coordinate, track, and manage programmatic and technical project activities related to the data aspects of the Atlas 15 Program and other projects, as needed, such as scope, schedule, progress, and data quality level.
• Support program outreach activities, such as meetings associated with hydrometeorologists and other investigators.
• Resolve issues and maintain and improve data QC methodologies.

Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications:

• Masters of Science degree in physical sciences, environmental sciences or similar related fields.
• 5 - 10 years of relevant experience with scientific/technical projects related to meteorology, hydrology or similar experience
• Knowledge of statistical analysis and computing, machine learning, processing large data sets, data visualization, and big data programming
• Advanced statistical knowledge and experience with analyzing, processing, and modeling large climate and observational datasets and climate model output
• Advanced knowledge of programming languages (Python, Julia, Fortran, C, and C++), UNIX operating system, as well as expertise in different parallel programming models in the High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment

Desired Skills:

• Experience with climate model and climate data would be a strong plus.
  
• Experience with Google suite products and tools.
