Passionate about working to reduce opioid use and deaths in Wyandotte County? Interested in updating database systems to run more efficiently, allowing better service to the community? The VISTA member’s project will build capacity within the Kansas City, KS Police Department by aiding in the updating of database systems to run more efficiently, allowing better service to the community. The VISTA will also conduct Grant and Policy research for Opioid grants that will aim to reduce opioid use and deaths in our community.

Our full-time, 12-month AmeriCorps VISTA positions could be right for you! Passion and general skills are needed, experience is not required; training and resources will be provided. VISTA members receive professional development and experience, but opportunities for future employment are not guaranteed. Multiple positions are available within the Unified Government’s AmeriCorps VISTA Program, and candidates may apply for more than one position.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
· Add extensive capacity to the crime analysis and within "Impacting Crime in Our Neighborhoods" (ICON) and "Data-Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety" (DDACTS) projects.
· Aid in transferring reports from access and building them into the LERMS system. Assist with ICON / DDACT Project to build community awareness.
· Objective of the Assignment Research opioid grants and policies for the purpose of applying for those opioid grants. Researching opioid grants and policies. Apply for opioid grants. Tasks would include preparing narrative sections, delegating and tracking the procurement of needed documentation and signatures, and producing any needed reports and or materials.
· Curate opioid educational material for better community engagement.
Minimum qualifications:
· Be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident
· Willing to submit to and pass a national service background check
· Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
AmeriCorps VISTA Member Compensation:
· A living allowance of $675 (pre-tax) is provided every two weeks.
· Upon completion of the 12-month term, CNCS provides a $6,345 Education Award for college loans or future education expenses. Those without loans or plans for future education can receive a smaller cash stipend of $1,800, in lieu of the Education Award.
