Position: Creative Arts Therapist

Seeking an enthusiastic, client-centered creative arts therapist for an inpatient psychiatric hospital to join our adjunctive therapy team. We have a large, multidisciplinary team of therapists and counselors who provide programming throughout the hospital serving adults with acute psychiatric illness. In this position, the therapist plans and conducts a variety of evidence-based psychotherapeutic and counseling interventions that support the wellness and recovery of individuals with mental illness. During the week, our therapists faciltate approximately three groups per day in accordance with trauma-informed and recovery based principles. Although we align mostly with the therapist's creative arts modality, they may also be expected to facilitate verbal therapy or activity-based sessions with patients with acute psychiatric illness to support their wellness and recovery. Adjunctive Therapists also facilitate individual sessions and complete assessments.

Adjunctive therapy staff participate as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team to analyze individual patient’s treatment areas and projects the prescribed treatment. The therapist is expected to observe, assess, record and report patient behavior and relate it to patient's progress in treatment via documentation and verbal communication, and complete proper clinical documentation in accordance with policies and procedures. AT Staff participate in weekly meetings and group supervision, assist in the performance improvement process and engage in the planning, developing, and carrying out of therapeutic and activity-based programming. AT Staff create an atmosphere of warmth, caring, and unconditional positive regard toward all patients and staff.

Please note: This position is an "offset weekend" shift, scheduled for a weekend day (Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday) and involves one evening shift per week

Job Duties:

1. Plans and conducts a variety of evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions that support the wellness and recovery of individuals with mental illness

2. Conducts group and individual creative arts, recreation, or verbal therapy sessions with patients with acute psychiatric illness to support their wellness and recovery

3. Participates as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team to analyze individual patient’s treatment areas and projects the prescribed treatment

4. Observes, assesses, records and reports patient behavior and relate it to patient's progress in treatment via documentation and verbal communication

5. Maintains proper clinical documentation in accordance with policies and procedures

6. Completes adjunctive therapy functional assessments

7. Completes discipline-specific psychotherapeutic assessments as needed

8. Participates in adjunctive therapy performance improvement processes

9. Assists in the planning, developing, and carrying out of therapeutic and activity-based programming

10. Creates an atmosphere of warmth, caring, and unconditional positive regard toward all patients and staff

11. Maintains organization and cleanliness of therapy supply closet, as well as communicates with supervisor regarding low inventory of supplies

12. Designs individual and group sessions around trauma informed and recovery-based practices

13. Attends and participates in weekly staff meetings

14. Supports Treatment Plans on units when needed

15. Any other relevant duties/projects as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, or Program Coordinators

Experience:

1. Master’s Degree in Art Therapy, Movement Therapy, or related field. Commensurate education in a credentialed yoga therapy program considered provided the clinician also has a bachelor's degree in a related field.

2. Minimum of 1 year of experience providing mental health counseling with adults (or equivalency of training with internship)

3. Experience conducting group and individual sessions, ideally in a partial or inpatient hospital setting

4. Experience and/or training in verbal counseling techniques

5. Any additional combination of skills, ability, and experience appropriate for the job

Job Type: Full-time
