Cost Accountant Job at Emerson
The Cost Accountant analyzes manufacturing processes and costs to establish standard labor, material and overhead associated with the product. This individual will assist managers by identifying opportunities for cost containment projects, gross margins to aid in pricing decisions, complete month end journal entries and inventory reconciliations. This individual will manage the cost reduction scorecard and execution of physical inventory and/or cycle counting.
AS A COST ACCOUNTANT, YOU WILL:
- Prepare monthly reports, inventory and operating expense variance reports, Cost Accounting Report (CAR)
- Reconcile inventory monthly and prepares month end cost, inventory journal entries and other month-end close transactions
- Analyze manufacturing costs to establish standard labor and overhead rates for coming year
- Analyze shop work order costing and works with the management team to understand / report significant variances
- Assist Sales organization in projecting gross margins for projects and new products
- Complete the E&O (Excess & Obsolete) model quarterly
- Track and report site Cost Reductions via the scorecard
- Support annual Physical Inventory process
- Lead the Cycle Count program and Supervise four hourly Cycle Counters that work the first and second shift
- Participate in and eventually Co-Manages Six Sigma Lean Projects

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Minimum three years experience in a manufacturing environment (1+ year supervisory experience preferred)
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and multi-task in order to meet deadlines
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Applications
- Willingness to obtain Six Sigma Black Belt within 12 months of start date (company sponsored)
- Ability to work overtime during Month End Closing and for other projects
- Periodic flexibility to communicate and support employees during the second shift
- Legal Authorization to work in the United States – sponsorship will not be provided for this role
