Community Recreation Instructor (Adaptive Programming) Job at City of Dublin, Ohio

Primary Focus: Adaptive Recreation Instructors will collaborate with the Adaptive Recreation Coordinator to organize and implement programs, classes, and events for Dublin community members of all ages with special needs. In addition, Adaptive Recreation Instructors may collaborate in determining appropriate accommodations needed for individuals with special needs to participate in traditional recreation programs, classes, and events.
Availability/Scheduling
Must be available to work in-person in Dublin, Ohio (no remote opportunities at this time).- Adaptive Recreation Instructors typically work 2-10 hours per week, depending on program needs.
- Program hours typically include evenings.
- Scheduling is flexible based on instructor availability.

Examples of duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Implement developmentally appropriate activities for adaptive recreation program offerings.- Organize necessary supplies, materials, and equipment for programs and activities.
- Lead, instruct, demonstrate, and supervise program activities as assigned.
- Adapt recreational activities to meet participant needs.
- Ensure participant safety by enforcing safety policies and procedures and maintaining clean and safe activity areas throughout all program durations.
- Collaborate with the Adaptive Recreation Coordinator to determine accommodations needed for participation in recreation programs and to help resolve issues with participants prior to, during, and at the conclusion of seasonal programs.
- Communicate effectively with the Adaptive Recreation Coordinator and program participants prior to, during, and at the conclusion of each seasonal program.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.- Demonstrate knowledge of and experience working with individuals with a wide range of special needs.
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Possession of current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of employment.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and remain active and on your feet for length of program time.
- College/university degree or work experience in Education, Special Education, Adaptive Recreation, or related field.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience needed for this position.
