Commercial Construction Project Superintendent Job at T. W. Frierson Contractor, Inc.
Job Summary: This position holds responsibility for planning, directing, and coordinating activities of commercial construction projects on site to ensure that the goals and objectives are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters. An additional focus of this position is to strengthen existing as well as build new and lasting relationships with clientele and subcontractors.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Upon assignment of project, refine project specific and client-driven goals and schedules.
· On negotiated design-build projects, assist the design team. Identify design inefficiencies and recommend changes.
· Establish and maintain project goals and success criteria meeting the client’s needs.
· Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and supervise multiple activities for project.
· Coordinate work with different crafts and subcontractors, assuming responsibility for productivity, and contractual performance of the project.
· Maintain project budget, schedules, and cost control. Update schedule weekly with Project Manager.
· Provide estimating assistance to Project Manager as needed.
· Communicate weekly project schedule updates to subcontractors and owners.
· Review field change orders prior to submitting to Project Manager.
· Submit draft RFIs to Project Manager for approval.
· Share leadership with Project Manager of weekly project meetings with all stakeholders.
· Review and address plan details, resolve issues before they result in added budget expenditures.
· Maintain continual open communication with design team, Project Manager, client, and subcontractors to ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, and schedule.
· Maintain awareness of safety rules and procedures among personnel, identify safety hazards and implement corrective actions.
· Document hours worked and submit to HR/Payroll Coordinator each week.
· Provide feedback to Vice President of Field Operations on subordinates.
· Attend client meetings as required.
· Perform additional assignments at supervisor’s direction.
Knowledge, Experience & Competencies:
· Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field;
· Minimum 10 years of work experience in a commercial construction environment, of which 5 years was as a Project Engineer or Assistant Superintendent in same setting.
· Experience leading commercial construction projects with a value of $5M or greater
· Exceptional organizational, time management, and decision-making/problem-solving skills
· Must have good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
· Ability to read, understand, and implement construction documents
· Ability to calculate correct concrete, stone, and lumber quantities for projects
· Excellent interpersonal skills with a proactive client focus and ability to maintain confidentiality
· Excellent supervisory skills with ability to directly supervise employees and subcontractors
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Ability to read and understand construction documents
· Ability to produce quality work in an autonomous manner in an ever-changing environment
· Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, P6 Scheduling, Bluebeam, and Procore.
· Must possess a valid, state-issued driver’s license with good driving record and ability to operate a pickup truck
· Current OSHA Construction 10-Hour certification
· Current basic first aid/CPR certification
· Must complete Tennessee Drug-Free Workplace Supervisor Training within 6 months of being in position
· Ability to work Monday through Friday, eight to nine hours per day, five days per week between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays as needed to meet project schedules and demands
· Ability to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for project site emergencies
Supervisory Responsibility:
Position directly supervises the position of Assistant Superintendent, Foreman, Project Engineer (Field), and Job Clerk
Travel Requirements:
· Daily travel to various job site locations within 100-mile radius of office
· Occasional travel to meetings or events within 50-mile radius of office, 4 - 6 times per week
· Occasional out-of-town assignments
