Job Description:
THIS POSITION IS 100% REMOTE (WORK FROM HOME)
SCOPE: Performs daily charge scrub of capture infusion, labs and radiation charges. Audit of physician, nurse practitioner and clinical oncology staff documentation in regards to correct coding of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCs, and modifiers and coding/charging based on the regulations and drug administration guidelines. Responsible for educating clinical and coding staff on documentation guidelines and correct coding; Acts as a coding and compliance resource to all Cancer Center clinical and business office staff members and coordinates.
FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs daily scrub of charges captured/documented by radiation/medical oncology staff and/infusion suites from all locations in regards to correct coding of CPT, ICD 10 CM, HCPCs, modifiers, and coding accuracy.
2. Responsible for month-end closure specified for the location and work necessary extra hours to catch up with any backlog.
3. Responsible for educating physicians and clinical staff on documentation guidelines and correct coding.
4. Acts as a coding compliance specialist resource to all Cancer Center clinical and business office staff members and coordinates, develops and conducts related education coding and compliance instruction and feedback. Works closely with the billing and business office teams to identify trends/denials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Evaluation & Medical Coder (CEM) certification REQUIRED
- Active AAPC membership required
- Experience working with ICD 10 codes required
- 3+ years medical coding experience required; physician coding preferred
- Knowledge of Medical Oncology/Radiation regulations and scrubbing/coding; drug administration guidelines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; outstanding interpersonal relationship skills; ability to problem solve; organized and strong attention to detail; resourceful; able to manage multiple tasks.
