Civil Estimator (Port Lavaca or Houston) Job at Palacios Marine and Industrial
Purpose:
Prepare cost estimates for civil projects to aid in bidding and determining the price of products and services. Civil Estimator plans, budgets, oversees, and documents all aspects of the estimating and bid process. Estimators will work closely with senior management to ensure that the estimate and bid align with company policies, processes, procedures, protocols, and budgets. Estimators might work independently or in a group setting.
Job Description
- Responsible for the estimation of all costs of projects, including raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, and transportation.
- Responsible for the collection, classification, and analysis of historical data.
- May be required to read blueprints or architectural drawings to determine necessary resources for projects within budgetary constraints.
- Helps determine necessary resources for projects based on cost estimates and budgetary constraints.
- Perform bid sheet preparation (Excel), solicit subcontractor proposals, and advertisements as needed, take-offs, and attend pre-bid walks.
- Identify qualified subcontractors/suppliers.
- Review quotes for completeness with plans and specifications
- Assist with timely completion of all client-required prequal packages
- Review subcontractor proposals before contract issuance for complete work scopes.
- Assist field personnel with estimating Change Orders, RFPs, and clarification of RFIs.
- Assist with the preparation of budgets and buy-outs
Requirements
- Experience in the field (10+ years preferred)
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering techniques
- Ability to perform basic to advanced mathematics required for estimating
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and/or engineering design drawings
- Ability to learn and easily be trained on the Estimating Model
- Experience in excel and word
- Must have computer experience
- Must be able to pass a hair follicle drug test
- Some sites may require a TWIC card
- Climbing multiple flights of stairs without assistance
Work Setting
- Primarily indoors with environmental controls.
- Some job walks on client sites may be required. These walks may be indoors or outdoors.
