Chief Information Officer

COMPANY BACKGROUND

TVG-Medulla, LLC is a multi-site healthcare management organization, with an emphasis on providing managed services to chiropractic providers. Medulla provides managed services such as Sales & Marketing, Billing, IT, HR, and Finance to three chiropractic brands, operating under the names of Chiro One, MyoCore, and CORE Health Centers. Medulla is comprised of 850+ employees, with corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, IL and 150+ clinic locations in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky, West Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.

TVG-Medulla is a rapidly growing organization, realizing 30%+ growth year-over-year, through a combination of both organic and acquisitive growth. As the organization continues to expand and enter new markets, it seeks a strong strategic CIO to lead the technology function.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Chief Information Officer (CIO) serves as the enterprise technology leader and visionary with overall responsibility for all aspects of technology, inclusive of infrastructure, security, applications, digital capabilities, and delivery of technology capabilities across a large, distributed network of locations around the United States. Given the increasing technology-enabled nature of the business landscape, the CIO plays a key role in partnering with the Executive Leadership Team to help shape the company’s broader strategic direction to maximize revenue and business growth.

The CIO also drives the daily execution and continuous evolution of the technology strategy to reduce operating costs and further the function as a strategic advantage. The foundational objective is to enhance business connectivity, customer experience, grow profitable market share, improve operational productivity, and enhance employee and team productivity.


Specifically, the CIO leads the following:

Enterprise Leadership

  • IT Leadership: Establish credibility quickly with deep knowledge of technology and an understanding of the current operating environment. Quickly align on priorities to address the highest value targets and challenges. Provide engaged, inspirational leadership regarding technology strategy, architecture, standards, and governance, to simplify the function and technology ecosystem. Comfortable managing a team of approximately 25 (and growing)
  • Portfolio Rationalization: Ensure collaboration with the business leaders to serve true needs, not just their requests. Operate in a proactive manner to deliver digital solutions that align with critical business objectives and customer focus.
  • Develop Self and Others: Develop the required skills to create an effective technology organization for the future. Maintain the ability to attract, develop and maintain top talent. Focus on diversity and the required highly competitive skills within in dynamic environment.
  • Communication: Facilitate operating cadence to communicate updates on the technology initiatives, capital investments, technology risk, resiliency, and cybersecurity. Work to establish inspiration, trust and facilitate education associated with the modernization journey. Communication should adapt appropriately to address the needs of the IT Team, Executive Team, Stakeholders, and Board Members.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage in cross-functional collaboration to maximize alignment and results. The ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, influence outcomes and negotiate across a matrix environment is important. Establish meaningful relationships across the organization to understand business and identify opportunities for new solutions. Create an environment to facilitate greater business outcomes through ideas, coupled with high quality delivery.
  • Ambiguity Management: Support the team and the organization in navigating the ongoing ambiguity associated with technology change and a rapidly growing organization. Communicate, educate, and operate in a transparent manner to share the vision and purpose across the technology portfolio.
  • Operational Excellence: Seek to simplify and deliver repeatable scalable processes and playbooks that enable rapid growth. Focus on continuous process improvement and integration.
  • Design for Scale and Growth: Lead and enable rapid growth through both de novo and M&A. Experience integrating the various Healthcare IT platforms of acquired companies into a cohesive, unified system is preferred. Approach the technology roadmap with an eye toward scalable, sustainable solutions designed for a much larger organization.
  • Budget Planning & Accountability: Possess strong financial acumen and a budget mindset with focus on project management and budget accountability. Develop annual CapEx and OpEx budgets. Be able to articulate business and investment needs and be able develop business cases and demonstrate ROI in order to secure funding

Technology Leadership

  • Architecture Vision and Strategy: Address the architecture and technology strategy to ensure the plan is functional and scalable, maintaining the perspective of the architecture being sustainable at 5x the current organizational size.
  • Agile Processes: Promote a culture that embraces change and innovation; establish business service orientation, accountability and focus on supporting a complex and rapidly evolving business landscape. Further embed agile methodologies across the technology function to increase pace of solution delivery, to accelerate innovation, enhance cross-functional collaboration and employee productivity.
  • Cloud Optimization: As cloud applications continue to be leveraged, ensure that cloud architecture is optimized and expenses are well-managed. Ensure cloud solutions are secured and positioned for scalability.
  • Cyber Security: Provide ongoing status related to the cybersecurity strategies, posture, and position. It is critical to continue the education and cultural awareness associated with the information security program. Experience in designing business resiliency and continuity plans, in conjunction with an appropriate disaster recovery program. Conduct simulations and DR recovery exercises.
  • Vendor Management and Strategic Partnerships: Determine when the use of vendors is appropriate and fills gaps. Review and assess the broader relationships across the vendor community, performance and value of vendors used, and actively negotiate for strategic partnerships that will support rapid organizational growth. Hold vendors accountable and where appropriate, negotiate better agreements, terms, and outcomes.

  • Data Analytics: Responsible for the organization-wide data in areas such as:
    • Governance: Advising on, monitoring, and governing enterprise data
    • Operations: Enabling data usability, availability, and efficiency
    • Innovation: Driving enterprise digital transformation innovation, cost reduction, and revenue generation
    • Supporting analytics and reporting on products, customers, operations, and markets

Digital Leadership

  • Vision and Purpose: Seek to establish alignment and focus across the enterprise. Create high-impact capabilities to address dynamic business conditions with relentless focus on stakeholder and customer needs.
  • Process Improvement: Embrace change, iteration, and ideation; reinforce people to think differently to bring fresh perspective to long-standing business challenges.
  • Innovation: Challenge current state in appropriate manner and utilize digital solutions to enable business outcomes, data assets, patient experience, employee experience, and operational excellence.
  • Patient Experience: Champion the voice of the patient and deliver innovative solutions to improve and enhance the customer experience. Partner with functional teams to prioritize initiatives that increase patient engagement.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10-15 years of experience leading transformational change with a focus on technology strategy, architecture, and digital capabilities.
  • Experience working with multi-site locations
  • Experienced in both the technical due diligence and integration of M&A activities
  • Familiarity with healthcare services, HIPAA, federal compliance laws and its reimbursement models
  • Strong business acumen, including demonstrated ability to identify key drivers of business and financial success in complex, dynamic business environments
  • A track record of success communicating technical information to non-technical audiences;
  • Superior project management and prioritization skills ensuring the delivery of complex projects on-time, on-budget and on-scope.
  • Appropriate technology experience including cloud, network infrastructure, software development, service desk, DevOps, Microsoft licensing, and cybersecurity

EDUCATION

  • An undergraduate technical degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or similar is required; an MBA is highly preferred.
