Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from High School or possession of a GED, and one year of experience in food preparation or service activities in a commercial kitchen; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in the field of work related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Job Functions
Campus Dining is seeking Chefs to join our team and assist in preparation, oversight, and serving of meals.

Duties of the position include:
  • Create menus, standardized recipes, and production sheets
  • Prepare large quantities of food according to guidelines
  • Operate commercial food equipment
  • Follow health laws in the preparation, holding, and storing of food.
  • Restock areas on the line and maintain clean, orderly kitchen area
  • Performs final preparation of food
  • Interact with customers and staff positively to provide excellent service.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
  • This position requires advanced knowledge of culinary principles, practices, and procedures of food service production.
  • Basic math skills and ability to scale recipes.
  • Knowledge of NC Health Department food and safety standards.
  • Experience in organizing and delegating kitchen work.

Required Functional Competencies to Successfully Perform Job Duties.
Knowledge-Technical:
Understands preparation of large quantities of food, sanitation, weights, measures, and service techniques. Follows directives on order sheets. Supervises and evaluates the work of an entire full-time and student staff. Secures the unit. Operates equipment according to guidelines. Checks serving lines for eye appeal, adjusts as necessary. Orders food and / or supplies and completes work orders to equipment repairs. Notifies manager of any equipment needs. Training, follow-up, and coaching of all technical aspects of the kitchen, service, or dining area. Follows health laws in the preparation, holding, and storing of food. Provides records maintenance by completing allocation, accident, and exception reports.

Safety and Health Compliance:
Recommends procedural and purchasing changes to meet sanitation rules and works to implement those changes.

Good Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Communicates information to individuals or groups including managers and co-workers/customers. Facilitates communication among the work group in a manner that helps accomplish daily work goals. Listens and responds appropriately to messages from others. Develops written information as needed to individuals or groups to ensure that they understand the message. Delegates to other employees, assistants, and students with clear and concise instructions. Provides feedback to employees on quality and timeliness of work. Motivates and engages employees through effective communication . Leads by example in overcoming communication problems in the work area. Conveys a positive attitude to other employees while supporting the goals of the food service operation. Serves as accessible point of contact with customers regarding concerns of the operation.
