Campus Security Officer Job at University of New Mexico
PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 130 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.
The University of New Mexico Gallup Branch is seeking a full-time Campus Security Officer. The Campus Security Officer will be part of the UNM Gallup Branch Internal Police Department. The campus security officer will enforce local, state, and federal laws and ensures compliance with University policies. Provides personal, equipment, and real property security for faculty, staff, students, and visitors within as assigned area of the University campus. Provides escort services, and other basic public assistance services as needed, and performs routine security and public safety patrol duties within assigned area. Remains alert to emergency situations and provides first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required. This position may require on-call, overtime, evenings, weekends, and standby as needed.

- Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Possession of a valid UNM driver's license is required to operate a State vehicle.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
- All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
High school diploma or GED; no previous experience required.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Demonstrated ability to:
- Valid New Mexico Level I or Level II Security Guard Certification
- Knowledge of and enforce public security codes, policies, and regulations
- Successfully conduct security patrols, building security and lock procedures without direct supervision
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and customer service orientation
- Communicate effectively, both orally and writing
- Complete routine paperwork and follow specific instructions and procedures
- React calmly and effectively in emergency situations
